About
Practical pet clips in my home, away from the noise and stress of a busy salon. I have only one dog at a time in the salon, unless there are 2 from the same family being groomed. Pets are only on-site for the time it takes to complete their clip, so not crated for half the day awaiting their appointment time.

Working with pets and doing my best to keep their coats in a healthy condition, which also helps the pet's overall health. Also, building a relationship and trust with owners and pets creates a positive grooming experience for all.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I take the time to listen to their specific instructions on how to clip their pet and offer suggestions and recommendations. At the end of the day, it's about getting as close to what they want as possible, without causing their pet any discomfort or unnecessary stress during the process. I'm not a "do it the way I WANT to" Groomer, unless I'm given that option by the owner.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I completed the pet grooming certification course through Animal Behavior College and became a Certified Professional Pet Groomer in May 2012.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I will base my pricing on what is standard for the area of service and usually start at or below the average prices.
How did you get started in this business?
I was tired of administrative jobs and was originally looking for a job I could do from home and the online grooming course came up in a search. After researching the school and giving it some thought, and considering my love for animals, I decided to pursue the training and begin a new career that didn't have me sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day. I've not regretted that decision.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Most are very attached to their pets and particular about their grooming desires.
Some have had to be retrained on their expectations, based on their pet's particular grooming needs and the owner's willingness or unwillingness to do what's necessary at home between grooming appointments.
I've had a few leave and then come back after realizing that what I had advised was truly what was best for their animal.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Most of my fondest events revolve around spending time with my grandchildren. In 2021,we drove a U-haul for 4 days to move closer to them and were able to spend a relaxing Memorial Day at their home for the first time in many years.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Be open to their recommendations and understand that their ultimate goal is what is best for the pet. I often refer to the "compassion and comfort over vanity" option for clipping a pet that is not brushed regularly and develops matted fur, but who's owner doesn't want the pet clipped short. If they truly love their pet, they will give up the idea of how they want the pet to look and defer to the Groomer for what needs to be done for the pet's comfort and well-being.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
They should ask what they can do at home between clip appointments to make the grooming process a positive experience. Many times, owners wait until their pet's coat is in such horrible condition, that, in the mind of the pet, the Groomer is the person that's "hurting me." This can be avoided by getting the pet used to being brushed and touched in all areas of their body. That way, it's not unexpected when the Groomer does it. A good relationship between Groomer and pet client is the key to a positive grooming experience for both.
