I having been in the business since 1978 exclusivly and basicall never had any other job. I have probably 35 to 40 thousand moves under my belt in that period of time. My son Matt who served a tour in Afghanistan has joined me to take the company over for the next 40 years when I decide to retire if I ever do. I still enjoy the contact with new customers in knowing that I am giving probably the best available honest accurate moving information that can be had. Fourty years is a lifetime in the moving business.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We send out an extremely knowledgable experienced minimum 10 years estimator to survey your home furnishings. He will talk with customer to come up with the type of job wanted from us. Meaning a full pack and move or a partial pack job and move or just a move only without packing services and boxes. After all decisions are made at your kitchen table a written estimate will be left with you along with a package of information about our company and some pre move tips and suggestions. We realize you may be getting other price quotes so we will not contact you back for several days to see if there are any additional questions or concerns.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
For myself I have 40 years of on the job training as I started the business when I was about 21 years old and will be turning 62 this year (2017). My son Matt grew up in and around my business his whole life except for his 4 year milatary service. Our 2 estimators besides Matt and I have 14 years and 5 years experience with my company. Our moving staff are full time year round career movers other than a couple college men we may hire in the Summer months for the busy season. Those men get full on training before going on jobs.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Local moves are done on an hourly rate basis with typically a minimum of a half day job 4 hours. That can occasionally be changed to something less if the job heelps us fill in a day where we are light on say a morning job where the crew will not have a full day job.
Long Distance moves are don on a basis of a tarriff. It is a formula of weight and distance, time of year, packing or not packing etc.
How did you get started in this business?
Was a student at NOVA working for a small company doing moving in Reston Va in the mid 1970,s. The town was exploding with growth and the area needed another moving company to keep up with the demand. Finished 2 years of college and put small ads in the local newspapers for moving. Was an instant success. I started out renting trucks and within a year my father loaned me $5000 to purchase a used truck. Then within another year or so my bank made me a loan to purchase a brand new moving truck. Most of my high school buddies worked for me in the beginning. I never really expected to be in the business for an entire lifetime as my intererests were in working for the Dept of the Interior as a wildlife biologist or the park systems. Business did me well and I never looked back. Now it is 40 or so years later.
What types of customers have you worked with?
All kinds. Harry home owners to big time executives of major corporations to goverment contract managers, overseas shipping compnies and other small businesses. Basically everyone !!
Describe a recent project you are fond of.
For the first 34 or so years I worked the company out of a small space consisting of just a couple offices. When it was time to start thinking about the old age I will face I realized I needed to grow the company so that I may one day still have room to get paid from the business even without being there. We opened our first warehouse and started doing more containerized storage. I was able to hire additional staff at about the same time as my son Matt was returning from Afghanistan and the Army. We doubled the business in the first year and have been happy to stay at that level for the time being. Growing too fast can bring on difficulties.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
CALL US!!! Really though, get 3 estimates and be sure you are choosing similar sized and capable companies. There are a lot of shady fly by night movers on the internet that do shoddy work and change the name of their company every year to avoid the bad press and evade responsibilities. look for companies that have been in business under the same name for a decade or so.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
They should be honest with themselves about how much of the packing process and self moving they INTEND to do themselves. Lots of people have great intentions to do as a way to save money. They also very often dont get to it. If they tell the moving company one thing and then move day arrives and the movers have to do more than anticipated then it makes a bad day for all. This happens a lot. Best to just hire the moving company to do the pack and preperation so ther are no surprises the day of the move.
