Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Learn as much about the dog's history, likes and dislikes, family dynamics and how long they have had the dog. Talk about the expectations and if there are any special needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Been training dogs professionally for the show ring and obedience for over 40 years. Trained one of the top 10 Beagles of the United States for confirmation showing when I was just 5 yrs old. Grew up in the business and have loved it ever since. We love helping people and their pets!
How did you get started in this business?
Trained one of the "Top 10 Beagles in the United States" for AKC confirmation showing when I was just 5 years old. My father was a professional show handler and part time interim show judge so I grew up in the business. Also, was a childhood dog trainer for obedience training with numerous clients through those early years as well.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of customers, some with training experience and others that have never trained. It is equally important to educate the pet parent as it is the pet.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have recently been working with leash training and general obedience for a four month old Chihuahua puppy that is really catching on nicely.
Also, a one year old Husky in need of a lot of obedience training and after just two hands-on sessions, we are already able to see definite progress.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Ask what type of training they provide, do they train in your home or where if not, ask questions you may have "before hiring" and let the trainer know as much about the dog's background as you can and what your expectations are for your pet's needs, ask where they received their training and are they a certified dog trainer.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Are they willing to spend the time thereselves to invest in the dog's training "inbetween" the professional sessions?
Are they willing follow through with an open mind towards good solid training advise for their particular circumstance that will add to their confidence as well as their dog's using patience and consistency on a regular basis?
Will the pet parents be on the same page for what they expect and willing to be an equal active participant?
