Texas Air Mechanical has worked with commercial retail, Industrial and residential customers since 2003.

Texas Air Mechanical best advised to hire an HVAC contractor would be to make sure they are hiring a current Texas state license contractor. The contractor should be insured with proper amount insurance to cover any issues if they were to occur, this will protect the homeowner and their home at all times.

    Are you licensed?

Depending on where you live, not every type of contractor requires a license to operate a business. If you choose to work with an unlicensed contractor, the equipment manufacturer may decide not to honor the unit’s warranty should a problem arise later.

    What certifications do you have?

There are a few certifications that HVAC contractors can qualify for. The Environmental Protection Agency requires contractors who work with refrigerants for air-conditioners and heat pumps to have EPA 608 Certification.

How can I get an energy-efficient system? The more efficient your system is, the less you will pay for heating and cooling in the future. Unfortunately, very efficient systems tend to carry a higher initial cost than other systems. At the very least, you should insist on Energy Star equipment. Energy Star is a voluntary EPA program for a number of household items, including HVAC equipment.

Will a programmable thermostat control the system? Standard thermostats keep the heating and cooling units at a set temperature. They’re not very efficient, as you’ll end up paying to keep your home at a comfortable temperature when it’s not necessary, such as during the night or when no one is home. A programmable thermostat allows you to set up a schedule that provides heating or cooling only when you need them, which could save up to 10 percent on utility bills, according to the Department of Energy.

Will you inspect my ductwork? Forced-air heating and cooling systems rely on a system of ducts to operate correctly. Ducts that leak or are not insulated where they should be can reduce the efficiency of the system by up to 20 percent.
Any ducts that travel through an unconditioned room like an attic, basement, garage or crawl space should be insulated. All ducts should be sealed to prevent leaks. In addition, over time ducts can become disconnected, and flexible ducts can develop kinks or be compressed, both of which restricts air movement. A thorough inspection can solve those problems.
