Doggone Smart Training

I have not worked with Terri at Doggone smart Training, but have worked with her at several other places. With her training, my dog at the time won many ribbons.

I was working with a 6 month old Bluetick Coonhound, who is smart and very strong-willed when a good scent or major distraction comes along. Terris experience raising Ridgebacks allowed her to understand the hound mentality and how to gain focus and control using positive training techniques. She even had all the class dogs in a 10 minute down stay while she moved major distractions right up to each dog. The dogs knew their job and stayed as requested. We also took a controlled unleashed course from her to learn how to handle a dog reactive issue to allow us to compete in agility. She was always completely aware of dog to dog interactions as they started to escalate, which allowed training opportunities to give dogs (and handlers) skills to manage the stress and provide positive solutions for the situations. We went on to compete in the high drive dog agility environment for 11 years and navigated many tough close quarters situations for dogs. Without this solid obedience training (done in a positive approach, unlike traditional obedience classes) we would never have been able to successfully compete in agility at the National level. I have since moved out of state, but really wish I was close enough to train my younger dog with her. I highly recommend (and actively still do) people to train with her!

Clear instructions. Good demonstrations. Personal interactions and homework for continuity. Very fun to work with Terry! I’ve been in her classes at one time or another for 15+years.

I was in Terri Schmidts dog training classes for over 5 years with 3 different dogs at several levels. I found her easy to understand and follow, always willing to give more explanation where needed. She demonstrated things clearly & presented easy to understand goals. She praised accomplishments well & made all her students feel recognized & able to complete the tasks given. I would not hesitate to take further lessons from Terri.

Terri is very knowledgeable about dog training. She strives to insure that the dog has a foundation of skills and does a fantastic job of building that foundation into skills. I worked with her for two years through basic training through Pre-agility. Then later worked with her through more advanced agility. She very much cares about the dog and the training and is very approachable.
