What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Brief phone description of work wanted/needed. If available request pdf prints, schedule an appointment, evaluate what the job is and what the customer expects. Pick-up bid set of blue prints if available. Work up an estimate. Discuss additional services that relate to the project.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
41 years of construction. Apprenticeship program through carpenters union. Contractors license school Licensed B-General Contractor. 4 years drafting school.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Not really any standard pricing system available. Their are for too many components and moving, unpredictable parts to standardize any kind of pricing. Especially where home remodeling is concerned.
How did you get started in this business?
It has been a family business since 1970.

I have worked with homeowners, residential contractors & commercial contractors.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Get at least 3 bids and check your contractors background and references.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Homeowners looking at additions and remodeling. Structural engineering and architectural costs. Building department permitting process.
New home homeowners should look at infrastructure needs: Water, sewer power are thes city and power company ready for hook-up.
