Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet you in your current home so we can talk about your goals and ideas. I can answer questions and show samples of my work. I encourage you to collect pictures, from magazines or online, of anything that inspires you. I then create an estimate of my total design fees. You will always know how much time I'm spending, so you'll never get a "surprise" bill. Then the fun begins! I can create a custom design tailored just for you and you are welcome to be as involved or not involved as you like. I present the design along with a budget spelling out what my proposed design would cost. Then I procure items for you, manage any subcontractors, and arrange for the installation. I do new construction, remodeling and decorating.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA in interior design from Parsons School of Design in NYC. I am a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I have several services. Some are:
Consultations: $250 for 1 1/2 hrs
I can meet you at your home or in a showroom and give you my expert advice, answers and suggestions on the spot. I often do sketches for you to keep. If you have samples ready, I can select an entire house's materials in about an hour. Bring lots of pics and all your questions!
Custom Interior Design: $125 per hour or flat fee
For larger more detailed projects, I can design everything from a custom window treatment to an entire house. I use CAD drawings, 3D color renderings, and selections boards. I do custom millwork, art selections, antiques, remodeling, coordinations with your architect or builder, lighting plans, finish selections and custom furniture. I can then order items you approve, arrange shipping, storage, delivery and installation.
How did you get started in this business?
I always wanted to be an architect. After studying it in college, I realized that it wasn't for me. After graduating, I began working for a celebrity designer in NYC and I was hooked! It's been over 20 years now and I still love it.
What types of customers have you worked with?
From the uber wealthy to folks who, like me, have more style than money! I work with nearly all budgets. Some clients have been very involved and others just want it done! I have filled empty homes with absolutely everything a family could need and I have done projects where we just rearranged and recovered things.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love to travel. Last month I spent a week in Orange County, CA and it was wonderful!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Collect pictures, from magazines or online (Pinterest) then notate what in each pic appeals to you. If you can, organize your pics by room. This makes my job easier, the work goes faster, and you spend less money.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Have you done this before? What education/training do you have? Are you open to a variety of looks or do you tend to stick with one style?
