About

Dogs have more than just behavioral needs. They have complex inner lives, and when training it is important to consider the full dog. Meg Waddell has over 10 years of dog training experience, and is pleased to be one of the few positive reinforcement, force and fear free trainers in Memphis.

Watching dogs who were terrified of the world on day one bravely explore a new environment during training is what gives me life!

We adopted a the sweetest dog who had the worst separation anxiety. She would tear up everything in our house if we left or out or howl ALL DAY LONG in a crate. After a few months of working with Megan we can now trust our dog at home. She saved us and we are so happy with everything she’s done for us and our dog!

Meg was always clear and straight-forward in offering practical, effective, kind tips for making my pup a better citizen in our family.

Meg is very knowledgeable and very patient. She met with my and my dog to see the issues we were having and work out a plan. She offered a variety of options to see which would work better with my schedule. We started with a dog who couldnt see another dog without lunging and barking and now we can comfortably go on walks and in dog friendly stores without stress. Highly recommend anyone who loves their dog and wants a positive training experience to work with Meg! She also provides safe and loving care if you need a pet sitter. Ive left my dog with her for overnights and knew he was in great hands.

    Frequently asked questions

We’ll have a consult where we evaluate the dog, what the owner needs help with, etc. Next we write out a plan and work together to find the best way to accomplish our goals affordably, as well as conveniently.  Dogs with moderate to severe behavior issues will need to be seen by a vet.

I have been studying and training for 10+ years. I’ve also studied psychology and learning processes in my time at college. I’ve also had many lovely mentors.

I am able to keep my prices affordable, as instead of training and drilling your dog for a whole 40 hour week, I break it up into smaller sessions. Dogs learn better this way anyway, and it makes professional training more reachable as an expense.

I grew up in a rural town and dogs and other animals were always a part of life. My family raised hunting dogs. After college my interest in animals became a full on obsession and I am still endlessly fascinated by animal behavior and how we all learn.

I primarily work with behavior cases, especially with fearful dogs who have been abused or didn’t have proper socialization. I spend most of my time acclimating dogs to our busy world.

I have successfully trained a few service dogs as well.

I also do puppy raising and can offer group classes.

My favorite days are days I get to take my dogs and human family to the off leash area at Shelby farms. I have mostly dogs who love to work and it’s a lovely place to get out the zoomies!

Carefully watch for buzzwords- many area professionals hint that they use only gentle and humane methods but also require an “e-collar” to be used in training. I fix a lot of the mistakes they and their handlers make with these products working with fearful dogs. Make sure and do research on current science and how dogs learn so you can properly interview the trainers, and make sure they’re just as good with people as dogs, because ultimately their job is to train you.

I would suggest writing out behaviors you do and do not like that your dog is doing. Be realistic about your expectations, but every owner has different preferences. Some want a trick dog with phenomenal manners in all situations, some just want their dog to be easy to live with. It’s up to you!

I have my customers fill out a screening rating how much of a problem different behaviors are. Unmet expectations are the root of most problems!
