About
Dogs have more than just behavioral needs. They have complex inner lives, and when training it is important to consider the full dog. Meg Waddell has over 10 years of dog training experience, and is pleased to be one of the few positive reinforcement, force and fear free trainers in Memphis.

Watching dogs who were terrified of the world on day one bravely explore a new environment during training is what gives me life!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We’ll have a consult where we evaluate the dog, what the owner needs help with, etc. Next we write out a plan and work together to find the best way to accomplish our goals affordably, as well as conveniently. Dogs with moderate to severe behavior issues will need to be seen by a vet.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been studying and training for 10+ years. I’ve also studied psychology and learning processes in my time at college. I’ve also had many lovely mentors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

I am able to keep my prices affordable, as instead of training and drilling your dog for a whole 40 hour week, I break it up into smaller sessions. Dogs learn better this way anyway, and it makes professional training more reachable as an expense.
How did you get started in this business?
I grew up in a rural town and dogs and other animals were always a part of life. My family raised hunting dogs. After college my interest in animals became a full on obsession and I am still endlessly fascinated by animal behavior and how we all learn.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I primarily work with behavior cases, especially with fearful dogs who have been abused or didn’t have proper socialization. I spend most of my time acclimating dogs to our busy world.
I have successfully trained a few service dogs as well.
I also do puppy raising and can offer group classes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My favorite days are days I get to take my dogs and human family to the off leash area at Shelby farms. I have mostly dogs who love to work and it’s a lovely place to get out the zoomies!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Carefully watch for buzzwords- many area professionals hint that they use only gentle and humane methods but also require an “e-collar” to be used in training. I fix a lot of the mistakes they and their handlers make with these products working with fearful dogs. Make sure and do research on current science and how dogs learn so you can properly interview the trainers, and make sure they’re just as good with people as dogs, because ultimately their job is to train you.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
I would suggest writing out behaviors you do and do not like that your dog is doing. Be realistic about your expectations, but every owner has different preferences. Some want a trick dog with phenomenal manners in all situations, some just want their dog to be easy to live with. It’s up to you!
I have my customers fill out a screening rating how much of a problem different behaviors are. Unmet expectations are the root of most problems!
