I personalize all training and I make it enjoyable for the humans and the furchild. My methods are positive reinforcement and I only use healthy treats for the reward. Training in the home is a great benefit, as this is where all spend most of their time. They key to training is learning the language your furchild understands. Too many words, words that are used for more than one type of command confuse the furchild. One word, one signal = understanding. Understanding = a good, established releationship. Aside from the usual reasons that I love animals and dogs are creatures that truly want to please; I train to keep our wonderful creatures out of the shelters. I try to encourage people to begin the training as soon as possible to alleviate anxiety in their furchild. Fido wants to know that his humans are in charge, that he doesn't have to be on alert at all times. This creates so many emotional problems for them and that in turn creates inappropriate behavior. This behavior is not them "paying you back" for something you won't do for them. This behavior is misunderstanding in the household. Our animals are precious gifts that we are given to love and care for. Time well spent in training is what they deserve, you deserve and prevents the sad ending for some in a shelter. It is the most wonderful feeling to see the happiness between the fur child and human when the furchild does just what is asked by their human, and praise is given and both respond with such love and connection. Then I know all will be well.
