General Partner, and founding Partner of these real estate investment partnerships, specializing in purchasing of economically obsolete industrial buildings, restoring them as industrial space, and then managing them.
1971-1998: Craig D. Tillman, Inc. – Penn Valley, Pa.
President: General contracting, painting, roofing, and repair contractor. Hands on involvement in all aspects of the field work, logistics, and implementation of this company. Involved in many projects with international interior designers. Worked on the Inn at Turtle Creek, The Belaire Hotel, the Crescent Court Hotel in Dallas for the Hunt Family, and did work at the Plaza Athenne in NYC, and many other such projects. My work was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest (April 1987, Nov 1987). I was involved in the specifications of the restoration of the Blair House and Willard Hotel in DC., and many other Historic sites and properties.

1964 (summer) intern apprentice for Regent Furniture. Learned upholstering and wood furniture finishing and construction.
Probably the best training was the hands on training from family members who were Union Founders of Painters and Roofer’s Unions in N.J.. My Father -in – Law was Louis Khan’s electrical and mechanical engineer on many of his larger most recognized projects.
Birth to my teens: learning various trades from family members who were plumbers, electricians, carpenters, home builders, roofers, structural engineers, and general contractors.
Misc Backround:
During my time as a contractor, I mostly concentrated on restoration work, with a concentration on historic restoration. During this time, I was involved in the following Historic projects:
4 homes on Elfreth’s Alley, Phila. I worked on the Thomas Wynn home in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia, The restoration of the Harriton Mansion in Lower Merion in 1975. The Lexton Mansion in LA.
The Dauphin Deposit Bank in Harrisburg. I helped research and write the specifications for the scagalli style restoration (faux plaster marbleizing) of the columns at the Willard Hotel and I consulted on paint finishes for the restoration of the Blair House, both in Washington DC. I did one- on- one courses with Hyman Myers, PHD, on Frank Furness architecture. I consulted in the repair and restoration of the Frank L. Wright cluster homes in Ardmore, Pa. I was part of a crew restoring areas of the Old Bookbinders Restaurant and the restoration of the Mask and Wig Theater. I owned and restored the factory buildings of the Schoenhutt Toy Company in Port Richmond, Phila., and two old mill buildings in Manayunk, Phila, Pa. that dated back to 1832. I was also involved in numerous restorations of many lesser known Historic properties. This back round awarded me membership in the Historic Building Inspector’s Association. (one of only 75 certified.) I currently live in, and have restored, a Historically Certified Home in Lower Merion that is in Lower Merion’s first designated Historic District Neighborhood.
Personal Interests.
Music!!.
I have been a performer in blues bands since the 1960’s, and continue to sit in and perform locally and in New Orleans, La. and with the Building Science Bogie Band. (see the Blues Mercenaries on You Tube)
FAMILY:
Father of 2, a grandfather to 2 wonderful boys and 2 wonderful girls. Married to my high school sweetheart for 47 years.
