I also require proof of rabies with vet invoice, rabies certificate or titer. Day of appointment I take address and phone numbers, questions about dogs behavior and health. Client and I discuss the services and style wanted.

Pricing varies from AKC breed or mix, size, service/style, behavior and add-ons requested or needed. I offer pre-booking discounts as follows: Pre-book every 4 weeks-10% off grooming fees, 5 weeks-8% off grooming fees, 6 weeks-6% off grooming fees. Referral Program-for each new dog client you refer, that completes a grooming appointment-you get $5 Off your next grooming for your dog.
How did you get started in this business?
I had my first show dog (an Afghan Hound) when I was 13. Since then I was involved with many types of animals and wanted to have some kind of pet/animal business. When I had my own family, I thought a grooming business would allow me to work and still have time for my children. In 1993, I started my first grooming and boarding business in Chesapeake City Md. At that time I was also showing and breeding Border Terriers with my children helping. Moving back to the Pottstown area in 2005, I was the first salon manager of the "new" Petsmart. My uncle owned Uncle Walter's Grooming Room but was to ill to work, so I took over the salon. He passed it on to me and I reopened as Good Dogs Spa & Studio in August of 2010.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all breeds of dogs but, at this time I am only grooming non-aggressive dogs under 25 pounds.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Since there is no licensing in any state for pet grooming, make sure the groomer has years of experience, professional schooling, a good reputation/reviews, a clean shop, up to date equipment.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What is their grooming process, how many dogs are in the salon at one time, how long will my dog be at the groomers, do they use tranquilizers, do they know how to do the style or service that I want, how long have they been grooming and what training do they have...and specific questions about their dog, the service they want for the dog, health/behavior issues etc.
