About this pro

We are an award winning design firm with a strong connection to our neighborhood and the city.  The majoroity of our work is local, and we also volunteer with our local neighborhood association here in Fishtown.

RKM Architects has recieved awards from the state and local AIA and was the recipient of the 2014 Philadelphia Emerging Architecture award for firms in existence less than 10 years.  Our work has been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Context Magazine, Residential Architect magazine, and HGTV.

While both partners have extensive past experience doing large commercial and academic projects in the past, RKM Architects was established with the goal of bringing good design to the moderately scaled neighborhoods of our city.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We typically meet, and discuss the client's goals for a project, and the constraints and opportunities that exist within the site, the budget, etc.

The first meeting typically involves discussing what we refer to as the client's 'wish list' for a project, and we best can help them achieve their goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Both Richard and Kim are registered architects and have more than 25 years experience in the field.  Our backgrounds are varied, and include  higher education design, institutional. residential design, commercial and mixed use.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

We tailor our fee structures to the project and to the needs of the client on a project by project basis.

How did you get started in this business?

Both Richard and Kim have a background in working on larger scale commercial and higher education projects.  Richard was a Project Architect with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson for many years, and Kim works at Drexel University where her title is Director of Design.  RKM Architects was established with the goal of bringing a high level of design to smaller scale urban projects, and where possible, projects that are local.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Over the years we have worked with Academic Institutions, Developers, Corporate Clients, and private owners.  Our past client list is quite varied.
