I began doing remodeling with my grandfather, a Master Carpenter, back in 1969 at the age of twelve. "Gramps" was a stickler for details and he made sure I was doing it right. If not, he would let me know! His last words to me were, "Don't forget what I taught you". I promised him I would not ever forget and I haven't.
My company EMPLOYS top-notch veteran tradesmen which ensures quality & timeliness. Today I employ five professional tradesmen who take much pride in their work. Even as the job is in progress they always have their eyes open for any trouble spots. When a hidden problem is noticed the client is notified and a resolution is agreed to prior to the problem being corrected. They, the tradesmen, are as picky as I am which is a very good thing for our clients.
Also employed is a room designer who sketches out all kitchens, bathrooms, basements, etc. The sketches, presented on a large format monitor, are reviewed by the client who tells us any likes, dislikes, changes, etc. The sketches are tweaked to the clients' liking then we move on to material selections.
Acclaim Renovations & Design, the sister company of One Man and A Hammer, Inc., has won many awards from notable institutions such as Angie's List, NARI, Best in City, Guild Quality and many others. One of the awards that I am most proud of is the Guildmaster award which is given to only those contractors with a 93% or better client approval rating. The information is taken from actual post-job surveys emailed to all clients. Acclaim Renovations & Design also has an A+ BBB rating.
I am certified by NARI in two fields, CR & CKBR. Both certifications required months of study in the classroom then a five hour long test for each certification. What do these certifications mean? They mean that I, the company owner & President, am a student of my vocation. I want to know the lateset techniques and building codes which is a HUGE benefit to all of our clientele.
My trademen respect our clients' homes by covering up all floors that we walk on daily in the home. They also use a dust collection system called Build Clean which is a large air scrubber that is vented to the exterior of the home via a hose. This helps in controlling dust migration into other parts of the home.
When we start a job, we finish...we are there every day throughout completion, always! Just ask our past clients.
Our THREE YEAR warranty is one of the strongest in the business because I believe in the quality and workmanship we put into all projects. Why do most companies offer a standard one year warranty? Do they not believe in their work? I'll let you be the judge on this.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I visit the client(s) in their home for an initial consultation during which I sit down and listen to their wants, needs, and desires. There is no high-pressure sales techniques but rather a relaxed discussion about the project and what they envision as the end result.
I will answer all questions asked of me, offer ideas, possibly take measurements, and discuss a comfortable investment range. All remodeling & renovations projects can be priced in many different ways and at many different levels. This initial discussion of investment will help to focus our efforts into a range that makes sense for the client.
After this meeting, and if the client decides to commit to the intial stage of design & feasibility, a two-person team will revisit the home to take measurements and pictures of the room to be remodeled.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a student of this vocation for decades. My training comes in the form of 50 years of in-the-field experience beginning with my granfather, a master carpenter, when I was 11 years old. I have attended many, many industry seminars along with belonging to groups such as Remodelers Circle, HBA, NAHB, NARI, and a few others that I am forgetting at the moment.
NARI CR (Certified Remodeler, and CKBR (Certified Kitchen & Bathroom remdeler) certifications. Hours upon hours of study groups then a 5-6 hour long test went into earning these certifications.
