About

I began learning piano tuning and repair as a way to save money for myself while I was still in high school in the 1970's. I started my piano tuning business in October, 1980.

By the mid 1990's, my business had grown to a full time business, and to this day, it is my only line of work.

I am a graduate of The American School of Piano Tuning, and was an active associate member of the Piano Technician's Guild for nearly 40 years. (Until Covid)

I tune acoustic pianos in private homes, churches and synagogues, theaters, retirement homes, and restaurants. I have tuned at major venues such as Proctors, The Egg, The Palace Theater, RPI, (both the old fieldhouse and Empac). The Times Union Center, Schenectady Light Opera, and The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy.

I have also done tunings for WMHT and WRGB TV studios. I am one of the regular piano techs for Artist Pianos in Latham,(Area Steinway dealer) since 1998. I have lived in The Capital Region my entire life.

My motto has always been to give great service at an affordable price, and I still charge a little less than other tuners in this area. My low overhead and long list of clients makes this possible. I also am Fully Insured.

I use top of the line tools, and stay informed of all of the latest tips and techniques of piano servicing.

I always wear an ID badge so that you know who I am when I arrive at your door.

I am a non smoker and I am pet friendly.

I am available weekday mornings and early afternoons only. I no longer work in the evenings, and I do not work on weekends.

I do not tune or service player pianos (paper roll type) nor Square grand pianos. (Table shaped pianos from the 1800's) I do not rebuild, refinish, buy or sell, take, or move pianos. I do have references available for services that I do not offer.

I no longer service electronic keyboards.

My phone number is now a cell phone. You may contact me by texting.

I accept cash, checks and PayPal. I am a real business, collecting NY sales tax is required with every job unless you are tax exempt. I do not work in Vermont or Massachusetts.

There are very few piano tuners left in this area, and time slots fill up very quickly. Appointments are first come, first served.

I love the sense of accomplishment after I finish a job, and hearing the difference between before and after. I also love the flexibility, and seeing different people, different pianos, and different places every day.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent health issues, I am now a part time business as of September, 2023. This may be a permanent change. I am still tuning, but I am not doing larger jobs anymore. I am only tuning 1-2 pianos per day now.

I can no longer do 3-4 pianos per day.

I am no longer taking on any schools as clients as of 2022.

I work in the following counties: Schenectady, Albany, Southern Saratoga ( South of exit 14) and portions of Rensselaer, Schoharie and Montgomery Counties.

    Frequently asked questions

I need to know the type of piano,(upright, grand, spinet, etc) what is wrong with it, the brand name, and it's location. A rough estimate can be made before seeing the piano, but exact estimates can only be made in person.

I graduated from The American School of Piano Tuning in 1982. I have been an Associate member of The Piano Technician's Guild for many years, and now I sometimes teach technicals to other members. The PTG has classes (technicals) at our meetings.

Tuning price starts at $129 plus tax.Tuning fee does not include repair work. My tuning fee is slightly below what other pro tuners charge. My overhead is very low, so I pass along the savings.

Pianos that are not regularly serviced may need more than one tuning. Pianos should be tuned a minimum of 1-2 times every year.

People who own more than 1 piano receive discounts if pianos are tuned on the same day.

There is a small mileage fee for long distance clients.

Pianos have thousands of parts inside. Having a piano tuned does not put a warranty on any of these parts. Repair warranty only covers exact repairs done for 30 days. Tuning warranty is 3 business days, not including mileage fee.
