Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initial meeting to review scope followed by furniture layout and materials selection as well as a detailed budget. Following by visiting showrooms to look at actual pieces before placing firm orders.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A BFA in Interior Design from New York Institute of Technology as well as partial masters in Decorative Arts collecting from New York University.
For nine years worked as a designer and manager at a prominent NY design firm and for the past 15 years as the President of my own design studio.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Every project is unique and pricing is determined according to its needs. A proposal can be made after the initial consultation which is most effective.
How did you get started in this business?
I always had a passion for art and design and therefore chose to study it as an undergraduate. I have a BFA in Interior Design which gave me the tools and understanding of space planning and design. But my curiosity led me to continue a masters program in decorative arts collecting which has given me a more intellectual understanding of design that is helpful in mixing aesthetics successfully.
What types of customers have you worked with?
As a residential designer I’ve worked with clients of all ages and all status. But most have stayed with me over many years as their projects evolved to reflect life changes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love to travel and explore different cultures. It was my lifelong dream to go to Amalfi in Italy and last summer I finally did. It was hugely inspiring and I’m very fond of that trip as it reaffirmed many of my design aesthetic.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Because a relationship with a designer is sort of a marriage (unless it’s a one time consultation) there should be chemistry between client and designer. And working with a small firm would usually guarantee that a client will get to work with the principal which is a huge benefit for the overall success of the project.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
A realistic time table would be helpful from the get go and so are some inspiration images that can inform some of the direction for the aesthetic.
