Daniel is a trip and wears real Dutch wooden clogs to the job. I hired him to review structural damage at my house with the intended deliverable of drawings to be submitted to my town for a bldg permit. Unfortunately, after meeting with him, and paying his fee for his time, I decided to cut my losses ($500). His beautiful clogs did him no practical favors for a job that may require climbing or stepping on rocks, going up attics etc. So there were some places that he simply was not able to get to. The trouble really had more to do with not keeping up with modern build methods, making large assumptions without asking questions that may give him a sense for why the damage was suffered, and ignorance around sealing, insulating, ventilation and water retardation. For him, his focus was all about changing out the light bulbs rather than the problem at hand, and man-splaining my need to prioritize my challenges. It was a waste of my Saturday afternoon, $500 and energy. Worse, Daniel doesnt do texting, didnt confirm before showing up (so I felt obliged to work with him when he showed up even though I called and left a message for him not to come), and doesnt do emails (he says emails get lost). After he left, I called him to say he ddnt need to waste his time with his report and drawings but he insisted on writing a report. Well - when the report showed up in the mail, I was just glad I didnt hire him. It was general, had lots of factual errors, made sweeping assumptions and generally took on a chiding tone. Daniel is an interesting person, but maybe its time to take it easy. I dont usually write reviews when i have a less desirable experience, but Im doing this because for the sake of everyone, its best to move down your list. Also, this is the last time I am using HomeGuide. Clearly Homeguide doesnt vet.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The customer provides me with the information about the property, and a short description of what is needed. I ask several questions and I set a fixed cost for the work.
