Night2Day Founder & Designer, Kayla Alvarado, is an Ecuadorian-American Bronx, NY native who strongly believes in the power of affordable and transformative design. She prides herself on her ability to create useful and meaningful designs that have a positive impact on the lives of her clients. Kayla's personal design style is a unique blend of contemporary and industrial while incorporating a variety of materials, fabrics and patterns. She is known for her meticulous attention to detail and heartfelt dedication to her work and her clients. In order to to pursue her passion for Interior Design and entrepreneurial aspirations Kayla left behind 8 years of Human Resources and management experience. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically, our complementary video or phone call sets the tone for the design project. Interested customers share their current design problem, I ask about their daily activities to set functionality standards and we wrap up with getting to know each other with design questionnaires and story telling.
Following the call, we schedule an on-site consultation where preliminary measurements, before pictures & deeper design questions are discussed.
With the information gathered from our On-Site Consultation, I create a Design Proposal and contract to begin. Once those are signed, THE DESIGN FUN BEGINS!
We aim to meet the highest standards and work together with our clients to build trust and long time relationships.

How did you get started in this business?
While dedicated my professionla career to Human Resources in the Non-Profit Charter School world, I started to attend Interior Design events based on pure interest and love for decorating. As I began to emerge myself deep into the design industry, I felt more and more passionate about the abilty to meet, connect and transform people's home.
I acquired my first client in the summer of 2017 and that was such a great experience for me! I noticed all my transferable skills from HR really played a helping hand with the design project. Watching my clients cry of happiness during the final reveal, set it my dream in stone. I knew i was meant to this work and I knew I was meant to do it with my own firm - in my own way!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've been lucky to work with a variety of customers such as young professionals, new business owners, large family home owners and even first time family owners.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Attending "Casa Project" Interior Design event in Guayaquil, Ecuador was truly stunning. Being able to attend an industry event in my mother's home country was truly a blessing. Every vignette was bright, breath taking and inspiring.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
I recommend customers prepare a brief list of questions (3-6) to really get to know your future interior designer. You will be welcoming this person into your inmate space for weeks - months, so make sure you are 100% comfortable with your selection.
Also remember, you could always use help! Do not be thrown off by prices or contracts, interior design professionals are here to help and curate your story in your home.
