About

I've always had a passion for animals, specifically dogs and horses. I began studying vet tech in school, but was not able to persue it due to personal reasons. I have a 3 year old rescue Border Collie-Pointer-Lab mix named Beau (BoBo) who i trained from the ground up and he is now my service dog in training. When he came home for the first time he had zero training with any commands, he was house and crate trained and thats it. Before Beau I dog sat for family members, worked with their dogs a little and also worked with horses a lot growing up. I've worked in different clinics in my home town and across the country for a few week internship in the animal medicine field.

Currently my time has been with my dog and his training, but I found that if I can train him from teaching him to trust the world around him, as well as people up to him passing his temperment test to now be my service dog in training, then I can help others as well.

While training Beau, it has taught both of us that "slow and steady wins the race". With time, hard work and a lot of patience, results can be seen. It also comes down to trust and bonding, "if a dog does not trust someone, they will not want to obey or work for them". I will help dogs and owners to know what one wants from the other. Positive reinforcement is key, repition is key, and most importantly it is imperative to make training fun! By keeping it fun, the dog will then want to engage more and more!

I also offer grooming services as well from nail trims, to anal glands and bathing as well!

"Life is an endurance test, it's important to make the most of it"

    Frequently asked questions

I begin with talking to a new client to start to understand why they are looking into my services. (Are they new dog owners, does everyone need a refresher on training, is the dogs behavior changing...) I also get as much information on the dog as possible. (age, temperment, are they a rescue...) I inquire about a "typical day" in their life. (dogs like routine and even a simple subtle change can cause distress and anxiety leading to behavioral changes) After discussing the above topics I always like to come up with goals, by setting goals it gives each side something to work towards; it also helps to keep track of progress.  Along with setting goals I also try and discuss expectations with everyone, making sure they are realistic and also that they do not put to much pressure on owner or dog.

I also love using "Clicker Training" as it acts a bridge: click and treat which then helps the dog realize that a click means a treat will be followed and then they put 2 and 2 together that a click must mean they did something good because then they are rewarded. A click takes a "picture" in a dogs mind of a certain behavior which makes timing key; a dogs recall is only that of a few seconds, so precision is imperative when clicking and treating.

I was studying vet tech for 2 years and was also cross trained across the country during an internship for 2 weeks over the summer.

I have worked at a few animal clinics as a vet assistant for small animals (dogs and cats), but have also worked at different horse farms; there I was doing a variety of jobs ranging from mucking out stalls, feeding, as well as teaching lessons and training.

I can do single sessions or packages:

Basic training for puppies, young dogs, dogs (7 common commands: sit, stay, down, come, off, heel, no)

    1 30 minute session: $25

    1 hour long session: $50

    5 session package: $200 (save $50)

    10 session package: $350 (save $150)

If a dog needs training due to aggressive behavior, prices would be increased an extra $25 to the above services.

I also offer grooming for dogs: nail trims, anal glands, bathing:

small dog (up to 25 pounds): $50

    medium dog (25-50 pounds): $75

large dog+ (over 50 pounds): $100 (an extra $15 for dogs over 100 pounds)

I got started with my own dog. My dog came to me after he was severely mistreated and brought up to NY by a rescue organization. When he first came home he only trusted me, but with a lot of hard work, time and even more patience he is learning more and more that the world is not out to get him. He was house and crate trained and knew his name, but he did not know any other commands. After giving him some time to settle into my home and life the training began; it started very slow as to not cause him to shut down, but over weeks and months he has mastered the commands and has also passed the temperment test to be my service dog in training. While training a dog is never "over" by getting the basic fundamentals down and most importantly the bond between human and dog, the sky is then the limit.

I would say that everyone has a different work ethic and not each method is right for every team. This is not something that can be decided quickly as it is important to make sure that the dog is comfortable, you are comfortable and that trainer and dog-human team can all work together effectively, safely and it be a good, fun experience.
