Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My basic steps:
I begin by Getting to know the customer with a series of conversations to understand them, their spirit, concept, and explore what design and vision they imagine for their space or project. I then discuss some of the key stages of the project:
Design Concept and Space planning - work on a design concept and Space layout
Interior Design or interior architecture –involves creating the palette of materials and finishes that will define the personality of the spaces and designing how they will be constructed and applied.
Furniture designs, finds, and selections. I consider this the fun part –and it is, but it is about details.
Buying, ordering and commissioning the production of furnishings. This involves style, finishes, trims, color, and elements to get the goods into the client's space after all other interior design and construction work is complete.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Architecture as well as a Master's Degree. I have worked for architecture firms and in the industry for over 20 years and taught interior design, product design and architecture at Parsons School of Design and Berkeley College.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing system is either a per hour rate of $100 or a project fee based on the size, time and scope of the work.
I prefer projects that have fees of $5000 or more.
How did you get started in this business?
I started by working for architecture firms in New York and was asked to stage a house and do a showhouse in New York. This gave me insight and sparked my interest in creating my own firm.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with home owners, apartment owners, corporations and not for profits.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am a trade show pro, I love going to find new products and learning new ways of doing interiors.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Interview the pro, ask questions and listen to see if you fit with a pro.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Understand the scope of your project, how much time it will take and be sure of what you want to do. Be prepared to remain open to suggestions and ideas to help with your project.
