About this pro

DEFdesign has the services of a dedicated interior designer and licensed architect to help all of your visions come to life.  We are currently seeking small scale projects to build a portfolio. Our experience working in large firms has allowed us to build a repertoire for quality work completed on time and on budget - every time.  There is no challenge too small to tackle, with experiences ranging from residential to institutional, our expertise can be easily applied to smaller scale issues with the same care and quality as the top companies in the world desire.

Personally, we love the prospect of turning a space a client doesn't feel great about into a haven.  There's nothing better than sitting down with a client to sketch over their plans, taking those plans creating working drawings then finally converting those drawings to reality.  The before and after, to us, is the most awe-inspiring and fruitful experiences we endeavor as designers.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We like to sit down and get to know the client first.  The most important aspect of working with somebody is to understand how they use the space(s) we will be working with.  Once we get to know the client better, we like to begin laying out the project on trace paper with them.  This gains consensus early and allows the project to exist on an expidited path.  We want this to be a fruitful endeavor for both our company and for you and your family.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

DEFdesign consists of a licensed architect and a registered interior designer.  Both partners attended an accredited university and have 5+ years in the industry working on small to large scale projects.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

We believe each and every client is unique.  We cannot give the same quote for a new construction that we would to redesign a kitchen.  Part of our initial phase in getting to know the client is building a pricing profile that will work for them.

How did you get started in this business?

Both of us have always had a passion for design and seeing transformations born from our own pens.  There's nothing more rewarding than getting to take intangible thoughts and convert them to tangible manifestations.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Anywhere from couples looking to refresh their furniture and interior layouts to college deans and presidents. We have worked with just about every personality and every taste and are flexible at learning new ones.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

Pay attention to what you're getting when you are looking for who is the best fit.  If you're doing structural work and need work permits, a registered architect is your only bet.  Interior designers are much different than interior decorators - they offer a much higher level of expertise and knowledge and have attended an accredited university to call themselves one.
