Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
On our first meeting we discuss the clients thoughts about what they feel needs to be changed, added, what works and what doesn't. This conversation provides us with insight into what the ckient needs the spaqce to be, how it should function and what activities will happen in the space. With this information we can estimate the amount of time we feel it will take to create a unique and personal design that reflects the clients lifestyle. Next we will set our fee based on the design direction. Once our contract is signed and the fee collected the design process begins. We are there thru the entire process .
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Interior design degree 1981, 30 years experience in commercial and residential design. Most recent commercial project was the 4th floor of Bissingers Chocolate facotry. The Caramel Room event space, pre- event sapace, bathrooms, lobby and design of the outdoor deck, as well as selection of dishes, flatware, glassware, drapes etc. The smallest remodel in the last yearwas a single Powder room. Our projects are as small as updating a foyer to the Design build of an entire home.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
No, becausewe pride our firm on every project being differnt.
How did you get started in this business?
Discovered my love of design in college.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Every kind. Small homes, condos, country homes, large estate homes. famous clients, busiess people, professionals, and young couples just starting out. The largest home we decorated was 30,000 sq. feet, The smallest was a tiny apartment in Clayton turned into a condo The kitchen was so tiny it required an 18" dishwasher, 24" gas 4 burner stove/oven, and 24" refrigerator, it also had a full size single bowel sink a pantry and a spot at the end of the granite counter top for the husband to sit and talk to his wife while she cooks.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Don't do it alone. If you don't hire us at least hire someone. There are a lot of codes, and critical measurements in this industry. With the right designer you will be thrilled with your space.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
They need a list of what is working in the space and what does not, gather photos and circle what in the photo they are attracted to. Is it the wall color, the pattern on the fabric? Know that kitchen and bathroom remodels will disrupt your life patterns for several months. it take 8 weeks to get in most cabinet lines. the room needs, gutted, electrical wiring needs to be moved as well as plumbing and heating, Tile carpet or wood floors will need to be removed or cleaned so furniture will need to be emptied from the rooms before they can be cleaned ,floors re-finished or new fglooring laid. Contractors will need a staging area to work( most of the time that is your garage) and contractors will be in your home from early morning till 5:00.
