What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Conceptual Design | Martha O'Hara Interiors is a full-service residential interior design studio that works with architects, builders, remodelers, and homeowners from coast to coast. For clients undertaking a home build or remodel, the Conceptual Design phases represents an opportunity to bring an interior designer into the process. Our role in this stage of a project can take many forms: from high level feedback after blueprint and technical drawing reviews, to design of whole interior spaces and details.
Material Specifications | Martha O'Hara Interiors works with architects, builders, remodelers, and homeowners across the United States on residential projects that range from home builds to cosmetic updates. Our specification services can include everything from electrical and plumbing plan reviews, to construction material selections, to selection schedules. What does this mean? We will review your lighting and plumbing schematics to make certain they are going to have the functionality and aesthetic you’re after. We will help you select all the materials that are going into your build or remodel. For those of you simply wanting a second opinion on selections already made, we can do that too. Finally, we will put together a complete grid of your selections and provide that to you and/or your builder.
Furnishings | Let the fun begin! At Martha O’Hara Interiors, we’re passionate about designing beautiful spaces that connect life with style. Our designers are comfortable working in a variety of styles and aesthetics to create interiors that allows you to be yourself, freely and comfortably. We can incorporate the existing furniture you love or start with a blank canvas, while presenting high quality and custom pieces within your approved budget. Our furnishing services include floor planning, color palettes, and selections for carpet, lighting, furniture, window treatments, accessories, and art.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our award-winning and nationally published interior designers have a variety of degrees and certifications. From Interior Design degrees, to Masters degrees in Interior Architecture, to NCIDQ and LEED certifications.
We are also involved in a variety of associations: ASID, IFDA, NKBA, AIA, NARI, HBA, BATC, etc.

How did you get started in this business?
Martha O’Hara Interiors began in 1988 when Martha O'Hara decided to strike out as a design entrepreneur. As an accountant and business consultant with a CPA and MBA, Martha discovered an incredible passion for home design after moving six times through five states and two countries. Today, Martha leads an award-winning team of dedicated designers based in Minneapolis, MN and Austin, TX. She is always available to every client, and is the head designer for the studio’s Texas-based team.
Martha’s daughter Kate O’Hara joined the studio’s marketing department in 2006 (though if you count her experience as a ten-year-old passing out flyers in the neighborhood for her mom, then her involvement with Martha O’Hara Interiors dates back further). Kate has played a leading role in developing and refining the company’s marketing strategy and social media presence, which is now followed by over 200,000 Facebook fans. Kate serves as the Director of Marketing and Business Development and is based out of the company’s Austin, Texas office, where she oversees the firm’s expansion into other markets with the goal of connecting life with style from coast to coast.

For Martha, however, the best part of being a design entrepreneur is working with gracious homeowners and talented designers; and getting to do so with her daughter and go-to-gal, Kate, by her side.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with homeowners, builders, and architects from coast to coast. Some of our clients are building or remodeling their homes. Others are furnishing a single room. Whatever your project, we would love a chance to learn more!
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
1. Be ready to define your scope of project.
2. Be ready to discuss your budget or to ask your designer to prepare a budget proposal for you.
3. Expect to discuss both your design style and your lifestyle.
4. Think about your project timeline, and be aware that custom furnishings typically take a minimum of twelve weeks upon ordering.
