I offer scientific, pet-friendly training based on evidence and consent. When used correctly, positive reinforcement training is the most gentle and effective form of training. Using force is the result of lacking training skill -- I don't use "corrections", and I reject dominance-theory pseudoscience. Positively trained pets are well behaved because they want to be, thanks to a bond built on trust. I provide one-on-one training and behavior modification in your home. I'm passionate about this being truly accessible to everyone, so I work using a "gift economy", where I accept a gift or payment that you determine based on your ability.

Abby Hartman graduated from the University of Rochester in NY with a B.A. in anthropology and an independent concentration in animal behavior. Abby volunteered at the Seneca Park Zoo, where she studies sea lion clicker training, zookeeping, and behavioral enrichment.

Abby worked as an accredited dog training instructor at Petsmart and Fresh Air Training before founding It's Training Cats and Dogs in 2012. Abby has also worked as a tech vet and behavioral consultant for animal hospitals, as a volunteer providing training for local rescue organizations, and as a community education dog training instructor. She lives in Richfield with her family and pets, and she has a sweet spot in her heart for pitbulls. She walks the road of late-stage Lyme disease and understands training while disabled.
