Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to talk with my potential clients to get an idea of what their goals are and then set up a meeting to see how I can best meet those goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Interior Design and Historic Preservation from George Washington University at Mount Vernon.
I received my NCIDQ professional licensing in 1986 and have had the pleasure of working on my own for the last 22 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $175 per hour and offer 20% off retail for furnishing purchases.
How did you get started in this business?
I began working as a kitchen designer and lighting designer in my teens while I attended design school to prepare myself for the NCIDQ exam and ASID professional membership. I became design director for Laura Ashley and Ashley House hotels and then opened my own firm in 1994.
What types of customers have you worked with?
As design director for Ashley House, I was owner representative for Sir Bernard Ashley and incorporated his small luxury house hotel concept into 3 properties which were in the top ten Conde Naste list for over 10 years.
I have had the pleasure of working with remarkable clients building their dream houses and 2nd and 3rd homes. Now I am doing the same for their children!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
My best advice to a client regarding hiring a designer is to make sure it is a good match! Show the designer what your goals and dreams are in advance to ensure you are on the same page!
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Clients should have a clear idea of where they want to be at the end of the day, both design conceptually, schedules and budget wise as well. Don't be afraid to communicate - this process should be about you!
