Interior architecture and design is one of the most interesting and satisfying professions, I truly appreciate everything about the colloaborative work processes, the people who help craft and shape the designs, getting to know the clients and what brings them joy, and seeing the final results which are entirely due to highly collaborative efforts of the whole team.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once an introductory meeting is scheduled [preferrably on site] we begin to define a scope of work for the project at hand. This is broadly defined by: 1/ calendar schedule, 2/ project scope and 3/ budget. Typically the budget is informed by the other two components.
A project scope of work is defined by space plans via "as built/measured" drawings of existing project, and we charge by the hour. At the end of this process you have a decision choice either to continue with our office, or if you choose to hold, you have a profoundly functional project management tool to work else where which is very rare. We focus on the client and managing all of thier expectations, and with over 23 years of experience this process has proven to be the most effective, functional and fairest for all clients.
Upon final approval of scope of work a letter of agreement is established which manages and defines all goals, processes and expectations which includes schedules and estimates. We can take on many different types of design and logistical tasks including contractor and most other trade selections.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
University of Virginia, B. Arch. - Architectural History
University of Virginia, B.A. - Social Anthropology
University of Oxford UK., Post Grad. - Social Logic of Space
S.A.I.C. [School of the Art Institute of Chicago] Graduate Coursework - Historic Preservation
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Interview at least three different professionals.
It's all about the fit between client and design professional.
Always trust your gut.
Best to bring images and notes to your meetings - a photograph is worth a 1000 words.
Learn and be educated about the process of what you are trying to acheive.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Three things you should have well defined before you meet with a design professional:
1/ What is the project program or project scope of work ?
2/ What is the calendar schedule you are trying to achieve?
3/ Do you know what things cost? What is your budget? *
*/ Typically the program and schedule inform the budget process.
