I hired Tektoniks to design an addition to my house. My main concern was to keep the historical integrity of the house, which is over 100 years old. The look of the finished project fit beautifully with the original house.

I worked with Ernie when I was interested in putting an addition onto my home. It was a very unique situation and a very tight lot so it was challenging. Ernie was very responsive and timely; I could not have asked for anyone better. He took the time to meet with me and was extremely thoughtful, understanding and provided feedback on my ideas.
Ernie always conducted himself in the utmost professional manner and brought a high level of integrity to my home project. His work is exceptionally thorough. Although my work with him only went through the beginning stages, his interactions with me were always honest, respectful and insightful.
I would without reservation highly recommend Tektoniks Architects as the architect for any project that you may be considering.

Tektoniks was a pleasure to work with. The working relationship on a design/build project between the GC and Architect is what defines the outcome. Due to their flexibility, accuracy and attention to detail, Tektoniks was a great partner and invaluable to our projects success.

Ernie was the architect for a major renovation of my condominium. He did a terrific job not only in drafting the plans, but also in managing the contractors/project and coming up with solutions to problems on the fly. He has excellent attention to detail (my contractor commented on how detailed his plans were) and a wealth of experience which is so critical in a major renovation. It allowed him to anticipate where we might run into problems in our building and be prepared with solutions. He has a calm reassuring manner which is very helpful when you are involved in a very stressful process. He met every deadline and met the budget. I highly recommend Ernie and would certainly use him in the future.

    Frequently asked questions

Here is an outline of the process: 1. INTRODUCTORY MEETING: We meet with our clients in person to discuss the project. If it is new construction, we tour the site. If it is a renovation/addition project, we tour the house or commercial building; 2. "WISH LIST"/GOALS: We discuss our client's "Wish List"/Goals for the project, to ensure our design reflects and compliments their life and lifestyle, and meets their exact requirements; 3. AGREEMENT: we draw-up a written Proposal/Agreement for the project, identifying all of our services, along with the milestones and sequences for the process, fully outlined, for the client's approval; 4. WORK: Once an Agreement is in place, we begin work! Our process is inclusive and collaborative. We exchange ideas back and forth, constantly vetting and searching for exactly the right solution for YOU. We don't keep stock plans "in a drawer."

Everything we design is custom-fit for our clients, their budgets, their timelines, and their sites.

Our Principal, Ernest V. DeMaio III, received his MA license to practice Architecture in 1990 - more than 30 years ago. Having worked on hundreds of projects of all types and scales, we have developed a massive body of knowledge and experience in the world of design and construction, both residential and commercial, at all scales. Additionally, continuing education is required by the State of Massachusetts in order to maintain Professional Licensure. We have maintained a clean license and spotless professional record for 30 years. Continuing Ed is also required by the US Green Building Council in order to maintain our LEED AP ("green") design status. Continuing education is not only a requirement but an essential ingredient to ensure quality designs and performance.

Each design we create is crafted to fit the specific site and client involved.  Everything we design is custom-fit for our clients, their budgets, their timelines, and their sites.  Because of this, we first need to understand the total scope of the project, and the client's budget and taste, before we know how much labor is required by us to achieve the desired outcome.  Once we have that information, we prepare a proposal that identifies our services and fees, in clear detail.

The Principal of the company, Ernest V. DeMaio III, loved to draw as a young boy. His dad also loved to design and build things, which had a great influence on him. After being hired by a professional design firm in the Summer of 1980, Ernest was "hooked!"

We're very fortunate to have worked on a variety of project types. Our most common types of projects are custom residential projects: new custom homes, additions, renovations, and "make-overs" being the most common. But we've also designed many different types of commercial and entertainment projects. We've designed warehouses and manufacturing buildings, a hair salon, a photography studio, a comic book + collectibles shop, offices, medical facilities, hotels + lodging, retail buildings, restaurants, and churches. We also have designed a theme park! Working with Mattel in NYC, the $25 million Thomas Land USA theme park in Carver, MA became the first "Thomas the Tank Engine" themed park in North America, joining its counterparts in the UK and Japan. Tektoniks Architects designed the master plan and all 11 buildings in the park!

Four words: Hire a seasoned Professional. Your home or business is your most valuable and treasured physical asset. Make sure that you entrust your most valuable asset to professionals who will protect your interests and provide you with exceptional service. There is a vast difference between a non-professional who draws measured drawings for your project vs. the design services offered by an experienced, qualified, licensed Professional. Risk management is critical to a project's success. Once damage is done to your home or business due to inexperience, inaccuracy, or incomplete designs/plans, there is no way to justify the "cost savings" resulting from an under-qualified individual, who claims to provide the same service as a qualified, professional design firm. Its just not worth the risk.

Customers should ask themselves: - "What are our priorities for this project?" - "What are our long-term and short-term goals for the property?" - "How long do we plan to live or work here after the project is completed?" - "Are the types of changes we are thinking about for the property consistent with our budget, the neighborhood, and our lifestyles?" - "Do we have contingency money set aside for unexpected hidden construction costs?" - "Where and how will we live while the work is being undertaken?" - "What happens if the construction schedule is interrupted, or if the construction phase runs long?" - "Does our project fit the demographic of the neighborhood in which we live or work, both today and in the future?" The quality of our work directly impacts the user's quality of life and well-being. Architectural designs by quality-minded professionals enhance the everyday experiences of those who use these spaces and buildings. Customers should ask potential hires about project experience similar to the project they are attempting. They should also ask for references for completed work.
