About

I grew up with a mother who raised and trained German Shepherds as she did not like the harsh techniques trainers at the time used. I started training professionally 30 years ago with a local business and eventually went out on my own in 1998. I am happy to say most of my clients come from referrals. As a behaviorist, I specialize in the "problem dogs" without turning to drugs or harsh methods. I have rehabbed MANY dogs (more than I can count) with aggression or anxiety issues. I understand that dogs and their owners are all individuals, and as such, each need individual game plans. While canine mentality is similar dog to dog, their attitude (dominant or submissive) and the attitude of their owner ("soft" or "bold") vary with each situation. "One size fits all" does not work with training. Experience is my guide, and I am proud to say I have an abundance of experience! I have worked with every breed from Chihuahuas to Coy Dogs and Wolves. We start in your home environment, so we can solve problems where they begin and expand to field trips once we have a solid working relationship at home.

Helping people reconnect and form a harmonious relationship with their dog by showing them their dog doesn't have to control their life but rather become a treasured part of their family.

Frequently asked questions

We start with an In-Home Orientation to discuss any key problems and approaches, as well as canine mentality and body language and how that relates to training and communicating with your dog. Our focus will be on mutual respect,  thought and self control, as these are key elements to a successful relationship with your dog. After that first session, there will be 6 additional (1) hour sessions which will include field trips and/or work with my dogs.

Bachelors Degree in Animal Behavior with a focus on Canine and Equine Behavior

$299 for a full series of sessions (7 hours total) or $65 for a one hour consultation (for simple problems)

I grew up with a mother who raised and trained her own German Shepherds because she did not believe in the harsh training techniques used at the time. She was ahead of her game back then, and her dogs were fully trained in both obedience and protection.

I have worked with all types of clients, human and canine, from the young to the elderly, handicapped to "overly athletic" (ie dogs that jump fences and break out of enclosures and never seem to get tired...) I enjoy helping children learn to control their dogs and am a screened 4H leader.

I am fond of any dog event near me, especially Dock Diving!

ASK QUESTIONS!!! You need to be sure you will click with your trainer and that your dog will too. If a trainer comes out and cannot click with your dog in a private session within 15 minutes, it may not be a good match. If a trainer is unwilling or unable to answer questions, that could be a bad sign.

Ask for honest answers and be prepared to follow the advise. A good training program only works if you follow the key elements of it. If you don't understand why something is being done, ask. If you are uncomfortable with an approach, findba different trainer. A good trainer needs to work with your dog and YOU! They need to fond the best approach to making the 2 of you click.
