We are so glad we decided to go with Steve and Domestic Dog Training for our 2 year old dog, Maizie!! We chose to do a three week training course and Maizie is a new dog!! She is so much more obedient and less fearful than before she worked with Steve. Our ultimate goal is to be able to take her on off-leash adventures and Steve has set us up on that path! He’s so approachable and responsive and kept us updated with pictures and videos during her stay. He has also been incredibly helpful with follow up after her training with phone calls, FaceTime, and in person meetings to ensure we’re continuing her learning! I’ve already sent a few more dogs to Steve, and will continue to recommend him to anyone who thinks they may need it!!! Thanks again Steve for all your hard work!!!!

Steve is a magician when it comes to dogs who have less than desirable behavior. He was able to not only train the dog I had taken in but trained me, helping me to understand why dogs do what they do. Rosie now has a chance for a better, less stressful life thanks to Steve's training.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We always start with a free consultation. This lets us know more about the dog and the owner. We get a proper assessment of each dog and understand each owner's goals. Then we make give our professional opinion on a training program tailored to meet the dog's abilities and owner's goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have had trained dogs my whole life! When I decided to start my own training business, I went to National K-9 and became a certified professional trainer. I am certified in everything from service dogs to personal protection, to tracking and trailing, to behavior modification, to basic and advanced obedience. My education has not stopped upon graduation. I became a nutrition affiliate for Volhard Dog Nutrition. I continue to learn as much as possible by researching online and pushing my skills every day with real-world clients and dogs.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

The price of training a dog varies from dog to dog and owner to owner. To know how much it will cost to train any dog I would need to understand the owner's goals and the dog's abilities. The easiest way to do that is through a free consultation. I do have some basic rates on my website. DomesticDogTrain.com

How did you get started in this business?

I fell in love with training my personal dog, Savannah, in advanced obedience and soft mouth retrieval. I had so much fun with her that I decided to further my education and start my own business!

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with all different types of dog owners! From 8 week old puppies to 7-year-old aggressive working dogs. I have trained deaf dogs as well as old pups! I enjoy finding new problems and solutions with every client I work with.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

I recommend doing research on a trainer before selecting one. Any good trainer will talk you through their training methods and ideologies as well as showing proof that they have had success with dogs in the past. I always show videos of previous clients and do a demonstration with my personal dog. I love helping people and dogs. If we do not end up working together I will enjoy pointing you in the correct direction.
