About
Our specialty is Fair Exchange based behavior modification. This is a relationship focused training via human/canine games, dog playgroups (think Montessori for dogs), and simple structural tools that reduce anxiety and facilitate calm happy dogs. I’m the only Canine Trade Group Certified trainer in Kansas and our Decisions Not Dominance Protocols have been shared on several media outlets including the dog whisperer. My 2 hr consultation is the best value in dog training as it includes a full behavioral assessment and specifics on how/why dogs think & behave as they do. Finally, we will develop a LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) based training plan for meeting your goals.
I love working with challenging dogs. Seeing dogs learn to manage energy, reduce anxiety, and make more human compatible decisions is extremely rewarding. We seek to minimize treat use in training and focus more on intrinsic motivations and fair exchange relationship building communications. Our expertise and experience in Cynopraxic training allows us to promote cognitive, emotional, and positive behavioral changes and social competence, cooperation, and play. Fountain City dogs learn to be Polite, Proportional, and Playful Partners.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We start with the 2 hr in home consult as dogs are environment sensitive. Our consult includes a full behavioral assessment and specifics on how/why your dog’s thinks & behave as they do. Finally, we will develop a LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) based training plan for meeting your goals.
We will begin learning with minimal distractions and then “go looking for trouble” once calm, energy-controlled decisions have been normalized. While reducing generalized anxiety we replace corrections with coaching and make it easier for your dog to listen and make better decisions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a professional dog trainer in Kansas City. I have a couple decades of training facilitation/coaching/train-the-trainer experience and am part of the very successful Canine Trade Group. I earned a B.S. in Behavioral economics from KU where I studied environment-based decision making and behavior management. In addition, I served as a student representative on the Sunflower House Board – a BF Skinner inspired housing experiment (still in operation). My time living in a “skinner house” still influences my training facilitation today. As a result, I see classical conditioning less as something done to a dog and more as a two-way fair exchange partnership between dogs and their lucky humans. Certifications include Decisions Not Dominance Protocols, Puppyology, Kids and Canines, and a VETiquette Accreditation.
