Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We begin with a free home energy efficiency assessment and take into account the homeowner's photovoltaic solar system-related requests, and provide a free quote. Next, the homeowner and Clear Energy America sign a contract, and the installer draws up plans, secures permits, and begins to install. After the installation is complete, the installer continues to provide maintenance to the system. Because we are a small business, you will see the same face for each phase of the process, and never be pawned off on a customer service agent who is unfamiliar with your system.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
20+ years experience with solar and 10+ years of experience installing and maintaining solar systems.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
A typical PV/grid-tied system from our company costs $3/watt, which is oftentimes lower than our competitors' rates. Some variables can change that rate in either direction; make sure to discuss battery backup options with your installer.
How did you get started in this business?
Owner Michael was head-hunted for solar sales and excelled in that field before branching into his own company where he has the benefit of being the first face that the customer sees at the beginning of his sale, end of the installation, and throughout maintaining the system. His co-installers operate similarly and customers appreciate this aspect of our company.
What types of customers have you worked with?
A wide variety of customers including farmers, commercial building owners, residential homeowners (of course!), and owners of large pieces of property who desire to operate off of the energy grid.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of our customers wanted the latest in solar technology from a newer, popular solar manufacturer. We were able to complete all necessary training that the manufacturer required for that particular system, and the install took less than three days. The customer was quite pleased and the system looks incredibly sleek!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure that you know who you will deal with in every stage of the process and ensure that you familiarize yourself with the industry average price per watt - some larger companies standardly charge $2/watt more than smaller, local companies.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Consider where on your property you wish to install. Anticipate whether you wish to have backup power services in addition to your photovoltaic solar panel system. Plan to ask the installer about when you could expect to "net zero" / see the return on your investment.
