We are full service interior design, and our designers are formally trained in order to be the most knowledgeable. We don't specialize in one style - we get to know our clients personally to provide a space that is unique to their wants, needs, and personal style.
Being locally owned and operated, we work hard to give you incredible customer service. We take every client very seriously and want to provide an excellent experience. With over 25 years in the business, we undertand the process clearly.
We have won several awards for outstanding design work in the area, as well as we have had our work published in several publications.
Every day is different here at Luxe Interiors - every project is unique, and we work with some of the greatest clients we could ever wish for. Being able to be creative and help people obtain a space they dream of is what puts a smile on our face the most.
One of the most important aspects to our business is being passionate about design and having it show in our everyday work. Our staff is exposed everyday to the latest and greatest products in our field, and we pride ourselves on being very knowledgable about how to integrate them.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We best serve our clients by meeting intially in person or over the phone to determine the overall scope of a project. Meeting at the job site is the best way to get a feel for the style, needs and wants. From there we can discuss the best ways to work, whether it is consultation only, or if product is needed that we can provide. We are full service in that we can assist with all aspects of the interior - space planning, flooring, lighting, cabinetry and countertop assistance, furnishings, art and accessories, etc.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our designers all have degrees in interior design from accredited schools.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We can work various ways depending on the needs of the client. Most often we will start on a consulation basis billing hourly, but end up waiving the consult charges if we provide a majority of the product needed. For new builds we do charge by the square foot for consultation, that is typically built into the home loan.
How did you get started in this business?
Luxe Interiors has been in business since 2011, and is owned by Jan Finlayson, who has more than 25 years experience in the business. A passion for beautiful spaces that create better living make every day an exciting day to come to work.
Jan started in the design business through a family friend's designer in the late '80's. Black's Furniture in Des Moines hired Jan as an intern in college, where she was bitten by the bug. She worked at The Mansion in Iowa City for over 20 years before starting her own business.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have worked with a wide variety of clients in both commercial and residential spaces. Our clients range from needing to update one room to building a new home, in all types of styles. We don't specialize in just one style as we have access to unlimited types of resources.
Describe a recent project you are fond of.
We do feature our projects at https://www.houzz.com/pro/theluxezone/luxe-interiors. A recent favorite is a complete remodel of a historic Mid Century home in the Iowa City area. We were involved with all aspects of the overall design.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
It is very important that you have trust in the interior designer you choose to work with. We work very closely with our clients and get to know them quite well in order to best serve their needs.
It's not important to have a clear vision of exactly what you need - a designer will help you iron out those details. It is key to be able to communicate well what you like or don't like. Having excellent communication with all parties involved always makes for a smooth project.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
How do you want to use your space? What is it currently lacking or not serving properly?
Is there a budget you have in mind? If not, a designer can help to develop one with your best interests served.
What aspects of the project do you want the designer to assist with? A designer can make all arrangements and be the main point of communication between contractors, for example.
What are your expectations for the project - timeline, phases, budget, priorities, etc.
