About

Our dog training methods focus on creating a positive relationship between you and your dog. Our expertise is in understanding how a dog naturally thinks, learns and communicates and then using this to show you how to be your dog's leader. Once this relationship is established, behavior change is a natural next step. Our techniques work with any age, any breed, any issue. You and your dog get one-on-one attention, an individualized plan to suit your family AND guaranteed support for the life of your dog.

We have built multiple businesses together over the years with lots of success (and a few "learning experiences" along the way). Becoming Bark Busters was by far the best decision we ever made. We go to work and come home smiling every day knowing that we have made life better for our clients, their dogs and their families. So often our clients call, email and text us with amazing stories about how their lives have changed because of Bark Busters. These amazing moments include messages thanking us for helping to save a dog's life, moments where daughters and moms can hug in front of their dog without it being aggressive and stopping them, cases where two dogs that were fighting violently are snuggling peacefully on the couch and so much more. These are the things that make being Bark Busters so special!

In one word.....
Unbelievable!
We tried for 6 months to get our new puppy into her cage comfortably and stay in it without extreme anxiety, NOTHING WORKED! Within a couple hours, Riley not only went into her cage on her own (without freaking out), but she quit jumping up on people, she quit barking at the front door, she quit running ahead on her leash (out of control) and many other “bad manner” items were wiped away!
Mark and Karen were truly remarkable. They know exactly what they’re doing, and it WILL take one visit to see an amazing transformation in your dog!

Frequently asked questions

Here is what to expect: We come to your home, and the first session is usually about 2 to 3 hours and includes assessment of dog's behavior and issues that you want addressed, lesson in dog behavior (how dogs live together in families and communicate), teaching you how to communicate "stop" to the dog in a way that he understands (without having to use treats or harm him in any way), and introduction of the exercises we'll use to practice that and establish you as "leader of the pack" and address the behavioral issues that you are seeing. We'll practice those exercises together to make sure you doing them correctly and are comfortable with them, and, you will see a change in your dog while we are there. [For puppies and adult dogs with toileting issues, the initial lesson also includes all the essentials of housebreaking.] We'll give you everything written up, in detail, so that you can practice on your own for 2 to 3 weeks (15 to 30 minutes a day). Then, you'll contact us and give us an update and schedule a follow up visit. During follow up sessions (usually 45 minutes to an hour), we can fine tune what you've already worked on and address any lingering issues or anything additional that you like.

For adult dogs, most clients are in a happy place within 1 to 3 visits, but as long as you are practicing and following the program, we will come back as many times as you need. For puppies, we recommend planning on 3 sessions for sure (the initial long session and 2 follow-ups - the scheduling of the follow-ups is left up to you when you are ready to move on). In either case, if a new behavioral issue develops years down the road, we come back free of charge.

Bark Busters Behavior Therapists and Trainers are among the top dog behaviour professionals in the U.S. All Bark Busters trainers are personally trained by Barb Cooke, Bark Busters Canada's Director of Training. They are also supported by Donna Ryan, Head Trainer for Bark Busters International and Jeff Drier, U.S.'s Assistant Director of Training. This is a rigorous and intensive program involving classroom study, observation, advanced dog handling, practical advanced behavior problem solving, and written, oral, and practical testing. This is all done face-to-face (unlike many training schools that are correspondence, video, or webinar based). We hold ourselves to a very high standard, and only when we know our students have met our standards are they permitted to operate as a Bark Busters Behavior Therapist and Trainer. Their training is continually upgraded and their performance monitored by our Head Office.

Our fee is $1095 including tax and covers as many visits as you need, for the lifetime of the dog ($200 for each additional dog thereafter for the same life of the dog service).

Before becoming Bark Busters, we really thought we knew what we were doing as dog trainers. We had trained many dogs with great success and were the "go to" resource for family and friends alike for over 15 years. Then we adopted our current dog Jules and she decided that she had other ideas about our abilities as trainers. We started to train her using the same techniques we had used with Bosco and needless to say, Jules was less than impressed! We found ourselves struggling with several behaviors that our traditional methods failed to resolve. We were at a loss and went back through our old training course materials and even turned to YouTube and reading about the newest, latest and greatest training techniques wherever we could find them. Nothing was working and we felt pretty defeated until we called our friend who owned a Bark Busters franchise for help. To our amazement, with Derek's help, Jules responded immediately. We couldn't believe how rapidly she turned around. Ten days later, we bought a Bark Busters Franchise and were ready to begin their intensive training program.

We have trained over 1,000 dogs with every kind of behavioral disorder. We specialize in barking, aggression, separation anxiety and destructive behaviors.

"I am beyond amazed at the astonishing results during our session. Our puppies are like totally different dogs! This is life changing. I will recommend Bark Busters to EVERYONE!!" - Aisha H.

Talk to the trainer and make sure they don't use any physical methods and that you are comfortable with their approach. There is no "one size fits all" way to train a dog. Be open to new approaches and ideas.
