About

Since founding his architectural firm in 2002, Michael Gorski has sought to use his design and management skills to provide clients with a home or home renovation of the most exceptional value, utility, and elegance. He combines his clients’ ideas along with his own in a collaborative process that creates a unique home, one that the client feels is distinctly their own.

Michael structures his practice to allow him to devote full attention to each client, providing an extraordinary level of personalized service and ensuring the success of the project. He carefully manages each project’s budget by conducting a series of cost reviews with regional building contractors. Michael works almost exclusively in Connecticut’s Fairfield County and New York’s Westchester County. There, his familiarity with local planning and building departments allows him to negotiate complex zoning and building code issues. During the construction process, Michael’s carefully crafted drawings, precise specifications, and experienced site observation ensure that the design concept is realized as initially envisioned.

Michael has assembled a dedicated group of consultants to assist him, allowing him to offer a complete menu of architectural and related design services to his clients. Michael’s team, consisting of some of the area’s most talented landscape architects, interior designers, and engineers, can design residential projects both small and large, simple and complex.

Architecture captivated Michael Gorski's imagination at an early age. While seated at the drafting table of his grandfather, a residential architect in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michael drew up his first architectural floor plan at the age of seven. Childhood sketching and model-making further nurtured his architectural interest. A combined six years of study at the University of Illinois' School of Fine and Applied Arts, and Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture further developed his skill and talent. At Columbia University, Michael studied under the distinguished architectural practitioner and educator Robert Stern, and the prominent architectural historian Kenneth Frampton.

After earning his Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University in 1988, Michael worked for the internationally renowned architect I.M. Pei. Concurrent with working at Pei's New York City office, Michael taught architectural design at Columbia University and the New York Institute of Technology. While teaching, he was honored as a guest architectural design critic at Princeton University, the Pratt Institute, and the Parsons School of Design.

To focus his career more exclusively on residential architecture, Michael left Pei's office in 1998 to take a position with Beinfield Wagner Architects, one of Connecticut's leading residential design firms. There, Michael honed his architectural design and project management skills while designing a series of waterfront homes along Long Island Sound. This work culminated in the design and construction of a Rowayton home that won a Connecticut AIA award for residential design excellence in 2002. Later that same year, he opened his firm, Michael Gorski Architect. Michael's firm has completed numerous residential projects in both Connecticut and New York and established a reputation for thoughtful architectural design, attentive service, and outstanding project execution. Many national and local publications have featured Michael's work, including the Ladies' Home Journal, Connecticut Cottages & Gardens, Renovation Style, Better Homes & Gardens, Kitchen & Bath Ideas, East Coast Home + Design, At Home, and A-List Awards.
