Our mission: We are passionately driven to provide outstanding, worry-free, and unique, individualized care for our clients and their pets.
Whether you have a long day at work (or the beach), a weekend away with friends, a puppy or senior dog who needs frequent potty breaks, or a trip that keeps you away from home for weeks at a time, Barks and Recreation has you covered.
I’m Elizabeth, owner and pack leader, and I’ve been passionate about animals since my first kitty, Bubbles, came into my life. After going to a vocational agriculture high school, working in pet stores, and grooming dogs for 5+years I found myself in a career in corporate america, where I spent the next 15 years. The skills learned from that job were well utilized during my 3 years running a large not-for-profit animal rescue. The combined lessons from each of those positions over the last 25 years has led to Barks and Recreation. Now I get to love on animals all day, exactly what I had been aiming for since Bubbles showed me what it means to have a relationship with, and care for, our four legged family members.
Barks and Recreation is a team, so you'll never need to worry about your pet sitter or dog walker missing a visit. A minimum of 2 people will be familiar with your babies and your home, meaning nothing will keep us from getting to them. All B&R Pet Care Specialists undergo a 7 step hiring process before joining the team, they are pet CPR and first aid certified, insured and bonded, and go through extensive training and monthly continuing education so that your fur family is in the best of hands while you can't be home with them.
A few things you can expect with our Professional Dog Walking and Pet Sitting services:
- A visit report every time we are with your pets. You will know exactly what we did, and you'll love getting pictures of your pets!
- An online profile to ensure pet information, medical details, and home details are up to date
- Easy on-line scheduling and invoicing, so you can do it when it's convenient for you

- Customized pet care based on the needs and personalities of your pets
- The benefits of a large company, the customer service of a small local business (Elizabeth will be the first person you meet).

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After our intital conversation we will schedule an in person or virtual consultation. During the consultation we will review your needs, answer questions, show me where things are etc.
If we have a virtual consultation and decide we are a good fit for each other then we would schedule a quick time for me to stop by, meet your animals (outside if needed), and grab a key if needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The entire team is animal First Aid and CPR Cetified and everyone takes monthly continueing education courses around animal behavior, first aid, body language, aggressive dog handling, and more.
Elizabeth groomed dogs for more than 5 years, completed Dog Trainer Foundations at Karen Pryor Academy, was the executive director of a large not-for-profit animal rescue and worked directly with the vet to ensure dogs received proper medical treatment, vaccines and more.
