About
As a design professional for nearly thirty years I have had the privilege of meeting some wonderful people and it was my great pleasure to help them. From window treatments to flooring, walls to ceilings, new construction, replacement counter tops in laminate, granite or solid surface, or simply help with your color scheme, furniture placement or accessories, Spectrum Home Decorating can do it all. As a privately owned business there is no hard sell, no quota to make or commissions to earn. Find us at Spectrumhomedecorating.com.
I especially enjoy seeing my client's face when the job is done. It makes all of my hard work worth every second I spent agonizing over all of the little details.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
On our first visit we will do a walk-thru of the area you feel you need help with. If you are looking for products as well as design services, I may bring a few samples with me. These are a useful guide in helping me to determine if I am on the right track in interpreting your descriptions. Sometimes what I bring is not what a client meant at all. Being able to see a sample and tell me what's wrong with it is sometimes easier than trying to describe what you really mean. Our second visit narrows things down even further and then we can proceed with getting things done.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Window Fashions Certified Professional, Hunter Douglas Certified Professional, ASID
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Each job is unique. There is a standard consultation fee if I am only being consulted in a decorating or design capacity. If a client is looking for work to be performed, painting for instance or new carpeting, then there is no consultation fee because we would be providing the materials or services.
How did you get started in this business?
Thirty years ago this business used to be my hobby. When I found I had a talent for it I invested in some schooling and then purchased an existing business which was largely just a paint store to start with. I kept adding to my products and services until I felt I had put together the very best team of professional installers and workmen to be found. They have been with me ever since.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with commercial as well as residential clients. There is a wide range from higher end homes to small apartments, large business buildings to single offices. I have never set limits on a job being too big or too small.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently had lunch with my family and then we spent the afternoon together. We don't see each other very often partly because we are far apart and partly because I'm always working. This had nothing to do with my work and may not sound very exciting but it was a lovely day just the same.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Most professionals can offer plenty of referrals. But just as important is your initial contact, especially if the services you require will be costly. It is important to establish a rapport from the very first meeting. If you are not feeling trust or confidence by the end of the meeting you should keep looking. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with that person. It may just be a personality conflict or differences in your approach. Since this person will be in your home your comfort level is every bit as important as the quality of the work.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
First, have at least some idea of your budget. Secondly, list items in order of importance to you in case your budget won't cover everthing.
