What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
ASID designers receive the most current information about appropriate materials, technology, building codes, government regulations, flammability standards, design psychology and product performance.To keep up with the unique needs of its members, ASID conducts independent research on topics related to the practice and business of the profession.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Choose someone to work with that your have a good fit with as far as personality and someone who you feel the most comfortable with. You may meet with a designer that has a great portfolio of work but if you don't feel at ease with them it doesn't matter how great the designer is.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Interior designers are not interior decorators. We do decorate but we also do a lot more. We understand building structure, we do architectural drawings either by hand or AutoCAD. We can provide complete drawings of a space, such as a bathroom or kitchen or room/house remodel, that can be submitted to get building permits.
Professional designers belong to the American Society of Interior Designer (ASID). ASID promotes professionalism in interior design services and products for the workplace and home.
