Shelley Sims/thrive Design
About
I take pride in creating not only beautiful rooms, but also creating happy clients. The majority of my clients are repeat business. I excel at taking the complicated process of envisioning, selecting, descision making and implementation and making design projects simple and easy for my clients. I also allow my clients as much or as little involment in the design process that they desire. I make the remodeling process fun and simple.
Transformation. I love the before and after photos. I love taking on all the responsibility to allow my clients to be stress free. My favorite situation is a client that has a very busy life and needs my help to transform their home, office or space. I like to use their ideas as a starting point and then take it to the next level. I have a fantastic team of suppliers, sub-contractors, artists that help me help you. I used to get in trouble as a little girl, my mother would say "Shelley your always stringing things". Little we know that this is one of my best god given talents. I love everything, color, textiles and design. Let's create together. Call me!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I offer a 30 minute free consultation to meet with the client and see their space, introduce them to my process and discuss the scope of work. From there I can estimate a starting budget and collect a retainer to start the design work. I work on an hourly and design percentage basis. I source all the goods at a discounted price which wil end up saving the clients money under what they would pay at retail in stores.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I actually started college for real estate changed to dance and philosophy and then on to fashion school. This is where I realized I have a deep love of color, and textiles. Out of school I started working doing visual merchandising and store displays, party decorations. And eventually ended up a nice combination of the real estate dad and the fashion mom, I became an interior design. The color, and layout design skills must be from another lifetime, I did not learn that in school. I have an exceptional ability to organize and lead and manage the hundreds of decision that go into any one design project. And I love the entire process and the transformation. From taking the before photos to the after shots, I love the entire process.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
30 free consultation followed with an estimated budget for design fees charged at $150/hour. I request a retainer that will vary depending on the scope of work and get started creating. At this point we end up with a detailed excel spread sheet listing room by room item by item. Client will be able to choose line items to proceed with purchasing and therefore has complete control over the budget and scope of work. Once we move on to the purchasing, implementation, delivery, styling, I work on a 25% design fee of wholesale pricing. All of these details will be explained in more detail in the first consultation time.
How did you get started in this business?
As I mentioned I went to fashion school in NY City and came back to Colorado to a job doing visual merchandising and displays. I eventually started redecorating showrooms at the Denver Merchandise Mart as I was taping into my talents. They really started to blossom when I did my first fix and flip 20 years ago. I was hooked. I love the entire process from swinging a sledge hammer to steaming the drapes.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked in many locations around Colorado and many mountain resorts such as Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Aspen, Snowmass Village, Edwards, Vail also Boulder, Denver, Castle Pines and I even have a client in Maine. My favorite client is the super buzy client that needs me to take charge and manage the entire remodeling process. Whether they are in town or out of state homeowners, I will take the stress of the millions of decision off of your back.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently completed my 4 fix and flip. The first three were 20 years ago.....and then I stopped. I let fear get in my way. Then I found a real estate inveting education service and I made up for lost time. We are closing next week on a flip that I partnered with three other women, we call it the "Chick Flip". And I am excited to move into investing and designing in the short term rental areana. My future is looking so bright that I am wearing my shades.
