Western Landscapes/Service &Supply
About
I am a craftsman and an artist and a scientist. I specialize in designing beautiful landscapes using native plants and grasses as much as possible. Drainage and soil preparation are key to a good design. I design irrigation systems to use minimal water. I am always experimenting with dessert plants here.
I am also very competitive. I am personally involved in all projects. My name is on it and I want my clients to be proud my work. That helps me get more jobs. I want my fences and retaining walls to be stronger and better looking than others in your area. I know my plants and grasses very well. I want my turf and shrubbery and trees to be planted correctly and look healthy. I want my projects to stand out, especially in the winter months (approximately 5 months). I use a large variety of evergreen plants, grasses, plants with interesting bark or branching, some features, etc.
I build water features, fences, retaining walls, and stone patios. I solve drainage and erosion problems. I restore areas damaged by flooding and fires. I love knowing my work will be enjoyed for decades.
My prices are competitive. I often work with clients on budgets and I have many ideas to save money. I try my very best to put myself in your shoes and treat you the way I would like to be treated.
I also hold a Pesticide Applicators License and ErosionControl License
I grew up in agricultural areas of Kansas, Missouri,Hawaii, Alaska and Colorado. I was fascinated with the diversity of plants and insects at an early age. I have attended horticulture and agriculture classes from my grade school years to present. I have a degree in horticulture and taught High school horticulture.
I love outdoor sports and activities and studying our natural environment. I hunt, fish and explore around North America. I enjoy creating dessert scenes, mountain scenes, prairie settings, wetland scenes and even eastern woodland settings. I've attempted tropical scenes also but that really only works in enclosed areas here. I enjoy experimenting, learning, and using my artistic skills.
Its a good feeling to walk through a completed project with a client and see them appreciate the beauty of a well built water feature or stone patio or retaining wall or a well disguised problem solved.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I meet with the client and discuss their landscape and irrigation ideas. We will discuss any problems that need to be addressed like erosion, drainage, soil conditions. We will look at windbreaks, fences, privacy screens, sun and shade requirements. We will discuss other enhancements like walkways, lighting, water features, stone features, plants, etc.
I will take measurements, draw plans if needed, and provide written estimates with alternatives for appearance or pricing. Most of this is free. I charge a small fee for drawing plans but I will usually drop the fee if Western Landscapes is contracted for the work.
I typically get 1/3 payment the day we start, 1/3 when we are halfway finished, and the final 1/3 payment when we are finished and complete a walk through and the client is happy and satisfied with the work.
Fences, retaining walls and some stonework will have a different payment schedule because the cost of materials is the a larger percentage of the job.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken many courses in horticulture, agriculture, landscape design, irrigation design, construction techniques, nursery management, equipment repair, erosion control, and pesticides application.
I have a degree in horticulture and I have a CDL, Pesticide applicators license and Erosion control license. I attend continuing education classes. I attend seminars and trade shows every year.
