Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We’d be happy to discuss your project in more detail to provide an estimate of costs. The best way to do this is to start with a phone call and often from there, an on-site consultation to gather the full scope, budget and discuss ideas. Our on-site, initial consultation fee is based on the project size but generally ranges from $500 - $750.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from University of North Texas. In my final year at UNT I worked for a successful artichteure firm where I learned about green building technologies and designed my first LEED certified showhome. I've also spent two years working for an antique and furniture consignment store where I learned a great deal about period styles and design.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We charge an hourly rate of $150.
How did you get started in this business?
My education and internship in college was key training for opening my own business. Traveling the world had helped me broaden my personal sense of style and the desire to transform not just my clients' homes but their lives as good design is about so much more than what meets the eye.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with a range of clients from early business professionals, new moms creating their first nursery to the retired couple nesting into their final home.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look through the Interior Designer's portfolio and website, schedule a phone call to discuss and consider closely if this is the person you'd like to work with over the next 6-12 months, which is the average timeframe of a design project. Do call references and ask detailed questions about their process, timliness, adherence to project goals, budget and timeline and most importantly in this field, communication skills.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Begin by pouring through design magazines, Pinterest and the like to inspire yourself and then share your vision --to visually communicate with your interior designer. This is huge in starting the project off on the same page. Having a budget in mind is very helpful, but also come to the table with an open mind about what all can be accomplished for how much and in what kind of timing. Your designer can help you set a realistic budget once project goals and timing is understood.
