What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Speak with the customer to find out their needs by asking relevant questions and providing any information that they need.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
40 years as an electrician in both Commercial and Residential work.
Licensed and bonded.
Have worked on everything from large residential properties (12,000' sq ft homes from the ground up) to small, simple service calls, like replacing a plug, light fixture to trouble shooting electrical problems.
Commercial electrical includes large office building TI (24,000 sq ft), 1600 amp main electrical switch gear installation, transformer install, lighting retrofits, restaurant service calls

$95.00 an hour with a one hour minimum.
Free estimates for new installations, ex. ground upu homes and commercial buildings, remodels, electrical panel upgrades, track and recessed and landscape lighting, etc.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Talk to the contractor to get a feel for what their experience and knowledge is.
See if they are helpful in providing you with more information that you may not have.
Get a minimum of 3 estimates.
Unless they are all just few hundred dollars apart, throw the high and low estimates out and take the one in the middle.
If the estimates are in a very close cost range with each other, talk to the contractors to find out exactly what they are providing for their estimates and that they understand your needs.
Sign a contract with a payment plan based upon start up and completion of electrical services (and passing inspection if applicable).
Have a permit pulled for a remodel and other sizeable jobs, so that the job will be inspected.
Remember that construction services is not the same as purchasing a car, where you can pay cash up front and get a cheap price.
You generally get what you pay for in construction.
