About this pro

I have been a freelance designer for over 30 years now. Three years ago we bought Design Alliance and I moved from Long Beach CA. to Oceanside. Access to the resource at DA is an amazing advantage for the independent designer, giving them sources for all the latest home furnishings, all under one roof.

My work history involves healthcare design in the 80-90's and residential projects, from new home construction to a single room re-decoration, from 1984-today.

My style, is your style and I believe that a persons home is their "showcase" of who they are, what they like, where they have been and should reflect that. I'm very resourceful and have no problem refurbishing your furniture and incorporating your favorite things in the design concept. I work well with a budget and spent 14 years in Visual Merchandising, so creating the illusion of costing more, is easy for me. It's all about creating an environment that feels right to you...that feels like home.

Whats not to like! I'm around beautiful fabrics, cool accessories and all things design, all day long.

I love the hopeful beginning of a new project, when anything is possible. Meeting new clients and engaging them in the creative process as we design there space together. Taking on the challenges that come with every project and finding the solution. Most of all, making the client happy, seeing thier face at a room reveal and knowing they got what they hoped for!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

You meet, go on a home tour and talk about what they see for the project at hand. This meeting is more than info on the project, it is to see if we are a good match. The client and I will be collaborating, negotiating, brainstorming and creating a new space in thier home together, we should get along!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a degree in design. My 14 yrs. in Visual Merchandising and 30 years of field experiance.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

I charge by the hour. Unless it is a project too large to divide time in that manner and I will charge a Flat Fee and cost-plus.

How did you get started in this business?

I was working in Visual Merchandising, did the design for a big Halloween event, put on by a doctor. He bought the first MRI machine in California, 2nd in the US. and needed a "center" built and designed for this amazing modality. He asked me.

I took on the job and became the "Designer Who Does MRI" facilities, I designed 12, before they became standard imaging equipment in all hospitals.

What types of customers have you worked with?

All types, I have done the MRI Centers, a Gamma Knife Center at Scripps La Jolla and in London and a Radiopharmicuical Lab in Denton Texas. I've done a number of offices, a 28,000 sq.ft. office for Chevron Land Development and the Balboa Museum.

I've done over 200 projects of various sizes for residential clients, including new home building and remodeling.

Describe a recent project you are fond of.

I'm currently working on 2, 55+ Resident Complexes in Las Vegas. I'm repainting the exterior and re-decorating the main Club House and sales model for each one.
