Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Interior Design. I am a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a set fee for the design phase. I then charge by the hour to source and spec out materials and furniture.
How did you get started in this business?
I spent many years reconfiguring spaces, designing and remodeling houses for resale. I grew bored with designing for resale and got back to my design roots. I opened my business, Lauren Pennisi Interiors and have never looked back.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with clients of all ages, style asthetics and budget levels. I recently completed a living room and guest suite for retirees in their 70's with elements of Chinoiserie to reflect their love of Europe and their recent travel to China. More recently, I completed the dining room and living room for a couple of 20-somethings just starting out. They preferred a more rustic style.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who you are comfortable with and puts you at ease. A designer works closely with you and is in your home. Make sure she is someone who listens and wants your input. It is important that you choose someone who will help you to acheive your design goals, not impose her own style on you.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
It is important that you come up with a general budget for your project.
