Horst Architects

Horst Architects are designing my new Laguna home. He passion and creativity have taken my ordinary, original concept and turned it into something spectacular. In addition, he is a really nice person to work and collaborate with, which is also reflected in his team. I highly recommend.

Weve worked with Horst and team over the last few years on a remodel of a heritage home. Through many revisions, often prompted by city and heritage reviews, Horst and team have been creative, prompt and professional. We love the plans theyve developed. While our property is more traditional than contemporary, weve appreciated Horsts ability to move between the two. And aside from that, he and his team are just really nice people.

Horst and I have worked together for 25 years. He is a very talented Architects. His designs are cutting edge and always conveys what the client wants, while building close relationships. Horst Architects puts a lot of effort into his designs and is always available when needed.

After an extensive exhaustive process researching and interviewing architects from across the country, mostly architects from southern and northern California and Austin Texas I hired Horst.

From the initial phone conversation I could sense his enthusiasm and excitement for contemporary architecture but it was not until the site visit in Dallas, which was attended by myself and many of the neighbors and HOA board members, that I witnessed his true passion and dedication to his trade. He literally went across the street, knocked on my neighbors door, asked her something and then proceeded to climb up onto her balcony and started taking pictures of the view corridor while spouting off various ideas and concepts for the project. It was quite an experience for everyone involved. Needless to say, the neighborhood had a new favorite architect.

The project has been under construction for almost a year and I have found Horst and his colleague, Mitch to be reliable, honest, knowledgeable, creative and engaged in the project. They listened to my initial desires and really tried to understand my must haves so they could deliver on what I had envisioned. Mitch does the day to day detailing on the project but Horst is fully involved, up to speed and readily available except for his occasional meditation sessions, swims at the YMCA and of course his annual hiatus/sabbatical to some foreign location.

Dont get me wrong, the project is quite complex and it has been far from smooth sailing. We have had many problems, setback and delays mostly from the structural engineers but Horst and his team have worked with them to come up with feasible cost effective solutions. During the project, I had a dispute with another designer involved in the project and he stepped in, helped resolve the dispute and agreed to take over that aspect of the project which was outside the scope of his responsibility.

If you have a unique property or vision, Horst and his team are the ones that will bring that vison reality. Overall, I would highly recommended his firm.

My husband and I hired Horst to design our dream home in Laguna Beach California. He has taken the time to understand who we are and has designed a beautiful modern home for us to enjoy. We are very happy and have no hesitation in recommending Horst Architects if you are considering building a new home or remodeling and existing structure. They offer an extremely professional yet personal service.

Horst designed a home for me and my wife in Laguna Beach and Im very happy with the job he did for us. Peter Anderson, you seem to have problems but I dont think Horst is the cause. Its really not cool to trash a good mans name in an online review like you did. So Horst followed his own vision? Thats because hes an artist. If you didnt like his style, you shouldnt have hired him in the first place. As for the rest of your review, it says more about you than about Horst. I found Horst to be an exceptional architect with a superb eye for modern design. He is approachable, dependable, and highly professional. If you dont like contemporary architecture, maybe you should hire someone else. Otherwise, Horst is an excellent choice.
