LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN
Perfection in residential design is achieved when the same creatives connect interior design with exterior architecture and landscape design. We have perfected the ultimate indoor-outdoor experience by harmoniously layering predominately native plants, finish materials, and architectural elements that are specifically molded to the client's life and design style.
How did you get started in this business?
We both have life long inherent interest in design, architecture and how they are connected to one's lifestyle and well being.
Originally, we worked for the same high-end custom furnishings manufacturing/interior design company in the Palm Springs area. Hector was president/designer, Chris in product design and interior design. 2004 we branched out to establish our own design company because we wanted our independence as businessmen and creatives. We have been working together ever since!
What types of customers have you worked with?
Mostly busy professionals with and without families living urban, suburban and international lifestyles.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of our most recent was a late 1970's full home project design/remodel in The Nellie Gail Ranch community in Laguna Hills CA.
We love when we earn the trust a new client right off the bat! These clients were so excited by how we were able to present the potential of their home that they expanded the scope of the project. They allowed us to lead them on a process of education and discovery about space planning, materials, and design.
After about 7 months they were able to see their home entirely transformed, energized by a highly functional new floorplan, layered with beautiful color, textures, finish materials, furnishings, and thoughtful art selections. The resulting finished project not only wows visitors but more importantly, has wowed the family. Their love for their new home is something we are sincerely proud of.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
To experience the sense of AHHH when you enter a beautiful space or home, we believe the decorations and furnishing are a big part of the results but just as important is considering the clients' own life and lifestyle.
" Interior design is the art and science of understanding people's behavior to create functional spaces within a building. Decorating is the furnishing or adorning of a space with fashionable or beautiful things. In short, interior designers may decorate, but decorators do not design."
NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification)
You see, having good taste might be a great start to approach interior design but there is much, much more required. We all have been in one of these homes, you know when everything feels exactly right the moment you enter, you may not know why you just feel it!
No matter what design style, a professionally decorated home should evoke a warm welcoming, and comforting vibe. It should have personal touches, as well as timeless finish details. Furnishings, art, and accessories should be thoughtfully selected from various resources to result in appearing as if they were naturally collected over time.
As professional interior designers/decorators, we also apply our expertise to all lifestyle issues. We consider space planning, function, and scale of furnishings. Equally important we identify organization requirements and how interior and exterior architecture plays into the design. We are also sensitive to the type of materials and furnishings being specified that are not known to be harmful to our client's family and the environment when possible.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
We suggest you consider the topics listed below:
Design + Lifestyle
Absolutes: likes and dislikes
Function
Level of Expectation
Budget
Timeline
If you're not sure about any of these details, our job is to help you identify and articulate these topics during our Initial Meeting and Discovery Phase.
Tip: Start an Inspiration Folder (paper or electronic) full of everything that inspires you, photos, magazine cut-outs, fabric, colors, etc.
