Jeff N. says, " We recently bought our first home out in Irvine about 6 months ago. It was ready to move in except for the backyard which was in pretty rough shape. My wife has always wanted a pool so a friend recommended Dreamscapes to us. Our pool and surrounding landscape was completed last Thursday and I must say they exceeded our expectations. The two main things I was really impressed with was that they keep us involved every step of the way, which helped keep us within budget and their utilization of the backyard space. They yard is about 8,000 sq ft which is not huge but they did a really nice job of putting the pool in and some landscaped trimming. Thanks again guys!" Read more

Your Artificial Turf Installation questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much does artificial grass installation cost?

Installing artificial grass costs $6 to $17 per square foot or $3,000 to $8,500 for a 500-square foot lawn on average. In comparison, real sod installation costs $1 to $2 per square foot.

The price of artificial grass is $2 to $8 per square foot for materials and $4 to $9 per square foot for labor. Many homeowners choose to use synthetic turf for their lawns because it's easier to clean and maintain than natural grass.

What is included in the artificial grass installation service?

Artificial grass installation service typically includes:

  • General site preparation, like removing existing grass
  • Adding weed barriers or underlayment
  • Closing sprinklers and rerouting irrigation
  • All turf materials and supplies
  • Labor for the crew
  • Full site cleanup afterward

Is artificial grass worth the money?

Artificial grass is worth the money because it pays for itself in 5 to 7 years and lasts 15 to 25 years on average. Synthetic turf saves money since you won't need mowing, lawn treatments, or watering.

  • Fake grass attracts fewer pests.
  • Artificial grass cleans up easily by spraying it with the garden hose.
  • Foam underlayment creates a soft ground for children.
  • Synthetic turf is stain-resistant and permeable to allow good drainage.
  • This backyard surface is ideal to prevent outdoor pollen allergies.

How long does it take to install artificial grass?

Installing artificial grass on a 1,000-square foot lawn takes 2 to 3 days on average for a 4-person crew of trained and experienced landscapers.

Do I need a permit to install artificial grass?

In most places, you need a permit that costs $200 to $250 to install artificial grass since it affects drainage, but it depends on the local regulations and lawn size. Check with your local municipally or contractor for the specifics.

Who installs artificial turf near me?

  • Collect at least 3 estimates to weigh your options.
  • Select contractors with 5+ years of experience.
  • Ask if their certifications include training from any local landscaping societies.
  • Read their reviews on HomeGuide and Google.
  • Request copies of the itemized bid, contract, and warranty before work starts.
  • Beware of the lowest quotes that typically indicate low-quality standards.
  • Never make the last payment before the job ends.

What questions do I ask when hiring an artificial grass installer?

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Can I see your license, insurance, and bond guarantees?
  • Do you have a list of your past references?
  • Can I see photos of your past grass installations?
  • Are all equipment, labor, and cleanup fees in this estimate?
  • What other unexpected costs can come up?
  • Are financing options available?
  • Can I get a warranty on your work?
  • How long will the project take?
  • What will you do in case of weather delays?

Alex N.
I am the owner of a 16 unit apartment complex here in Mission Viejo. We have a pool here ever since we purchased the property in 2008. However, it was never used and gotten quite dilapidated. The tile started to chip away and the flooring was becoming powdery from exposure to the weather. A friend of ours had used Dreamscapes to build the pool at their home so we gave them a call to see if they could help. They initially came out for the estimate and gave us some great ideas that would bring the recreational area to life. They proposed some cost effective landscaping to accent the pool that gave the place a whole new look. All the tiling was redone, inlets and outlets were replaced, and they even removed the awful diving board. The project was completed last Friday and our tenants there can't stop giving us compliments. I've never seen so many of our tenants out and about as I did this past weekend. Great Job Dreamscapes, keep up the good work.
