About

Gary Wilkes has more than 30 years working with animals – 8 in the humane industry in every capacity other than executive director. He has worked for the last 25 years as a behaviorist and trainer. He created clicker training for dogs between 1987-1992. When Gary and Karen Pryor introduced clicker training to dog trainers, he had already clicker trained more than 1,000 dogs, primarily by veterinary referral. Now that number is around 7500 plus and growing. His consultant list includes MIT, The Seeing Eye, US Army Special Ops Dog Training Command and many others. He has years more experience using clicker training at the highest levels of difficulty than anyone else. If he makes a definitive statement it’s the result of direct experience over many years with many dogs. i.e. It’s not speculation. You can take it to the bank.

Gary is compassionate and generous with his time. If it wasnt for him my dog would have had to have been put down for aggression. I tried other methods that took forever with little to no progress. With Gary the change started to happen immediately. Shiloh now works as my service dog and is perfect out in public and out on trails.

Frequently asked questions

I give free telephone consultations/evaluations to learn the customer's needs and desires.

I am self trained. That being said, my resume would be hard to match. If you go to my website you can read all that. Suffice it to say that I have 30 years experience working by veterinary referral solving simple to complex client/animal problems. That includes working with a veterinary neurological service to fix dogs that have traumatic and organic brain disfunctions. My training came from hands-on problem solving. I have done more than 30 presentations at veterinary conferences and was invited to be a full member by the Association for Behavior Analysis, International. That included being an invited speaker, panel member, panel chair and discussant over more than 20 years. Oh, I was also a consultant to MIT on artifical intelligence projects. And the Phoenix Zoo and far more than that. I teach service dog traintes, search and rescue trainers, sporting dog trainers and have applied my skills to improving virtually every 'working dog' application.
