Jordan G. says, "ARRK handyman Service was hired by my company to put a 150ft wood fence in the backyard of our rental property with two gates in order to create privacy from the railroad tracks directly behind the property. Russell and his crew showed up ready to work in the middle of a snow storm when they live an hour and a half away. They had to cut down gigantic tree in order to install the fence on very uneven ground. The final product turned out beautifully! He did a wonderful job in regards to the work. However, I had to subtract one star for poor communication and follow thru. I had asked Russell to complete the project within a 3 day time span and to also stay in contact with me every morning with updates. The project ended up taking a full 2 weeks to complete and I was only contact one time with an update. He also put the front gate in an awkward spot, not where I had planned for it to go. In the end, The quality of work was so stunning that some of these other issues fell to the wayside. We would most definitely work with Russell and Arrk Handyman Services again!" Read more

Your Oven Repair questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much does oven repair cost?

The average cost to repair an oven is $150 to $350 if it is not covered by a warranty. Your total repair cost varies depending on the repair service rates in your area and what specific parts of the oven need replacing. Repair prices can range from as little as $100 to replace a thermostat or door switch to as much as $700+ to replace the entire door. Appliance repair technicians charge $50 to $125 per hour for the labor alone, and most have a minimum service call-out fee.

  • Replacing the temperature sensor—one of the most common parts to break on both electric and gas ovens—costs $100 to $250.
  • Replacing the heating element in an oven costs $150 to $450.
  • The cost to repair or replace the ignitor in a gas oven is $150 to $325.

Consider replacing your oven instead of repairing it if it's more than 10 to 20 years old or if the repairs cost more than 50% of the replacement cost.

How long do ovens last?

An oven should last about 10 to 20 years if it is well-maintained. The quality of the oven and the amount of use it gets will affect its lifespan. Gas ovens typically last longer than electric ovens.

Should you tip for oven repair service?

While it's common to tip for appliance delivery, appliance repair technicians do not expect a tip, and some may even be offended by it. Appliance repair technicians are skilled professionals, so just as you do not need to tip a doctor, lawyer, or teacher, you do not need to tip for appliance repair. If you hire a repair technician for ongoing maintenance or use their services regularly, consider giving them a gift during the holidays to show your appreciation.

How do I find the best oven repair service me?

Follow these guidelines to help you choose the best oven repair service near you:

  • Compare 3+ estimates from licensed and insured repair service companies.
  • Review their profile and look for excellent repair service reviews on HomeGuide and Google.
  • Hire a company that's been in business for 5+ years.
  • Get a detailed estimate of the repair in writing before the work begins.
  • Avoid the companies with the cheapest bids as this may signal low-quality work.
  • Don't make the final payment until the job is complete.

What questions should I ask when getting estimates for oven repair?

Consider asking these questions when choosing an oven repair service near you:

  • How long have you been repairing ovens?
  • Are you licensed and insured?
  • Can I see a list of references with contact information?
  • Have you repaired an oven like mine in the past?
  • What appliance brands do you typically work on?
  • What is your minimum call-out fee? Does this include the travel to my location?
  • When are you available to make this repair?
  • What does this repair involve, and how long should it take?
  • Who will be working on my oven?
  • What additional costs might come up during a repair like this?
  • How will you protect the area while you're working?
  • Do you offer a guarantee on labor and parts?
  • Does the quote include all parts, labor, and cleanup fees?
  • Do you offer ongoing service plans for appliances?
  • Should I replace the oven instead of repairing it?
  • Do you offer payment plans if I need to replace the oven?
