Gary H. says, "I have had the unique opportunity to assist Deanna Lee on more than a few training sessions, and I can tell you first hand that her love for these beautiful animals surpasses anything I've ever seen. Besides training your dog quickly and efficiently, her main concern is actually for the "health" of your pet. Because of her vast knowledge of natural medicines and nutritional diets, she can help your pet live years longer because of her advice. Sherrie M. says, " Jessica at Pack In Harmony was the exact trainer we needed for our 17 month old Aussie and our 11 year old Aussie. I reached out to Jessica after becoming so frustrated and embarrassed by my dogs behavior. Could not walk them together or have company over without the younger one going crazy. I love Cesar Milan’s philosophy and Jessica was the only trainer I contacted. She replied immediately and we had our first session within the week. She gave me the tools I needed to be the best pack leader both dogs needed. And the results were immediate! Now after 3 sessions I can walk both dogs (3 miles today), meet and greet other dogs, have calm dogs even when the doorbell rings or someone knocks on the door and enjoy friends and family with calm submissive dogs. We can take them out to our favorite dog friendly stores and restaurants! I am eternally grateful for Jessica, her kindness and her guidance. My life (and my dogs lives) are once again in harmony." Kristen H. says, "We have had issues with our two female dogs fighting over food, toys, and other resources as long as we have had them. We have worked with several trainers, who were unable to solve this problem. The older the dogs got, the worse the problem became, in turn making our lives more and more difficult. Sonya from Apex agreed to come and work with us one on one, and after about a month of these regular sessions, we could see a change in our dogs and an improvement in our family dynamics. By addressing our root problem (my husband and I were not seen by our dogs as "alpha" and we had no actual control over what they did and did not do), Sonya taught us and the dogs how to have the best possible relationship. As we became a balanced hierarchy, our dogs stopped trying to take that control upon themselves, which eliminated their aggression. Now, we can leave out their toys and resources, and have something we have not had in more than 5 years- peace of mind. In addition to solving our greatest problem, Sonya went above and beyond by teaching our dogs basic obedience commands as well as proper leash manners. If you need exceptional dog training of any sort, call Apex K9. I am so happy we did. " Read more

Your Dog Training questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on HomeGuide.

How much are dog training prices near me?

Professional dog training costs $30 to $50 per group class and $45 to $120 per private session. Dog obedience training schools cost $200 to $600 per week, and boot camp kennel training costs $500 to $1,250 per week. Get exact prices by contacting affordable dog trainers near you.

What do professional dog trainers do?

Local dog trainers teach dogs basic obedience, behavioral modification, agility, personal protection or guarding, emotional support, therapy or service dog training, show dog handling, puppy training, trick training, hunting training, police dog or K9 training, and other types.

Certified dog trainers offer group classes, private lessons, or come to your home for one-on-one training. The best in-home dog trainers also teach the owner how to train commands, use body language, and offer proper reinforcement guidance. Many dog trainers use positive reinforcement, which uses a reward (treats, praise, toys) for desired behaviors.

What is the best age to train a dog?

Puppies 7 to 8 weeks of age begin to learn basic obedience commands such as “sit,” “stay,” “stand,” and “down.” Professional dog training traditionally starts at 6 months old. By delaying training, behavioral patterns learned during puppyhood likely take longer to change.

Can you train an old dog?

Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks! Dogs can learn and be trained at any age. Older dogs have more self-control and are easier to train than young puppies. Continuing to train your dog as it matures is also important to help keep their mind sharp.

Is paying for private dog training worth it?

Private dog training helps correct your dog’s behavior, aggression, anxiety, socialization skills, and teaches them a commands list in a timely and cost-effective manner. Common commands dogs learn quickly are to stay, heel, and roll over.

Professional dog training is valuable because it teaches your dog not to jump or bite, to stop barking, to stay in the yard off-leash, potty training, to use a dog door, not to pull on a leash, hand signals, and much more.

Which dog breeds are easy to train?

The easiest dog breeds to train are an Australian Shepherd, Corgi, Bearded or Border Collie, Poodle, Miniature Schnauzer, Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, and a Doberman Pinscher. Female canines of all breeds are also easier to train and housebreak.

Which dog breeds are hard to train?

The hardest dogs breeds to train are a Husky, Mastiff, Pug, Beagle, Bulldog, Weimaraner, Afghan Hound, Basenji, Basset Hound, Bloodhound, Chow Chow, Dalmatian, Fox and Kerry Blue Terrier, Irish Setter, Pekingese, Pit Bull Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, and a Rottweiler.

I would personally recommend DeAnna as a dog trainer to anyone. After just two sessions we noticed instantaneous improvement of not one, but three of our dogs. She is very knowledgeable and caring when handling my Animals, and I can't say enough good things about her training methods.

This particular dog is slow to warm up to most people, she took to Kasey right away. Kasey is very aware and respectful of a dog's needs and temperament; training is at the dog's pace. I'm so glad I chose Kasey, and they continue to work together.
