Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We'll schedule a site or home visit. Clients receive a refferal list and a free consultation while discussing their needs and goals. Next with a design contract , we'll produce residential plans, sketches and renderings of the proposed project. Generally we'll schedule a meeting to review the planning work at our Studio office in Laconia NH. There we have numerous products to explore color, textures and more to determine a working budget. Changes to plans may made then , before construction to avoid pricy change orders. Construction may commence when the schedule permits. No deposits are taken until the scope of work begins. We're fully insured, pull permits as needed and are committed to starting and finishing projects one at a time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Studied at the Boston Architectural Center and enjoyed working in the field with our tradesmen for 42 years and growing every day. Held local building and zoning officer positions in Hudson NH. Had been a licensed real estate broker and am a certified green builder in California. Maintain a professional lead license and continue at least with 12 hours of professional development in products and training.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We prefer working on a cost plus contract which gives the home owner products and subcontractors at cost . This allows both home owner to save and control their budget. However, we will do a fixed contract from time to time. This method of contracting is more expensive usually.
How did you get started in this business?
Always knew what my likes and strengths were when design and building projects. If is most fulfilling to take a customers ideas and develop them into a final work of art. That's what makes this business fun than being just a job.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Everyone, all types . It doesnt matter.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I wrote and ran an after school design build go kart program. It taught kids team building, math skills and artistic fun to design a go kart that was sponsored by a local business and raced down a community owned ski slope in the summer.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
It's well worth the knowledge and experience of a good contractor to be on your corner. I've seen and unreconstructed many poorly built homes by inexperienced hacks over 42 years in the business. I'll be up front and honest with my customers
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What is their wishlist and prioritize their needs over desires. Style of architecture, choice of finishes, square footage and life style. Budget, budget and budget. Building or renovating a home is one of life's most expensive and rewarding endeavors when done right and with plenty of planning. Or it can be a financial nightmare. Were not afraid to discuss all aspects of project with our customers first.
