Michael Menn Ltd. is a full service, architecture and construction company (design/build) specializing in custom residential additions, apartment renovations, and remodeling throughout the suburban and downtown areas of Chicago. We are a unique firm in that we try to marry design and cost (budget) with the final delivered product.
Unlike most general contractors, we are also architects. Because we are architects, our approach to design/build is a little different. We are interested in the design concept and preserving that concept during the construction. In addition, we take the time and make the effort to guide our client through the difficult process of remodeling. In order to successfully guide a client through this process, it is imperative to assemble the right team.
Our goal is to develop long-term relationships based upon our commitment to quality and service. As a result of this philosophy, we are proud to say that many of our clients continue to engage our services and constantly refer us to others. No, every project is unique is one way and needs to be looked at on an individual basis.
How did you get started in this business?
I knew when i was 7 that I wanted to be an architect. I grew up in the lumber business and there were always blueprints of homes in our house.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Over 40 years, every type of client from attorneys, docors, professioanals to traes people to people working on an assembly line.
Describe a recent project you are fond of.
We are currently finishing the rneovation and addition to a 1920's colonial. When our client has showed progress to her frineds, they comment that it looks exactly how the other house looked. That was our objective to modernize a 1920's house and make it look and feel like the original with modern amenities.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Hire a licensed professional that you feel comfortable working with. Also ask for references.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Budget, scope and time frame.
